Thinking about buying this 2007 Saturn Sky. Does anyone know anything about these vehicles?

Saturn went out of business, so if you want to work on it yourself go for it.

If you plan to take it to a GM dealer for service, good luck.   The Tech's at the Dealership here all went to some motorcycle school and are all happily placed in motor dealerships.     2 I know went to the Honda dealer here.

Saturn parts are getting hard to come by and soon, won't be avaiable at all. Saturn is a Saab is an Opel. All have one thing in common... Lack of parts availability. Buy it you want. Nice car but, soon, window switches, computers, engine management parts won't be available. Yes, brakes and some suspension parts are available. I just put a rack in an ion with electronic steering assist. 1000.00 can't buy inner tie rod ends, it part of the rack Assembly. I myself wouldn't own a. Saturn just because of that...

Thanks guys. Yep, I've thought of the parts thing. All the working parts are the same as a Pontiac Solstice.(also no longer made). That doesn't mean parts will be more available, I'm sure.
   Thanks

I have a 2008 Saturn Aura XR and have not had any significant issues, works fine.  Most of the Saturn Aura parts can cross to some degree to the Pontiac G6 or better yet the Chevy Malibu as well.  The Saturn Sky unfortunately only had the Solstice as it's GM counterpart, and I'm not sure about the cross reference of parts for those.

Although there are no longer any Saturn dealerships to provide service, Saturn was a division of GM and the GM dealers here are taking up the slack as was advertised.  It is my understanding that the parts were to be manufactured or available for 10 years from the model year...  is that not correct?

I only have about 25k miles on the 08 Aura XR,  using the truck and bikes mostly, so I sure hope the car lasts much longer.

If you like the car, and it's a nice price.... grab it, it is after-all just a car......  have fun.

Thanks again for your feedback guys. I am only $500 away from what I want to pay for the damn thing. I keep asking myself how much would I really use it? I have a Wing & a Valk that I love to ride already. Could it be middle age crisis? Probably!!!!

I'd personally stay clear of Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and Saturn since all 3 are no longer here and guessing in 4-5 years especially the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky not too many were sold since not popular sellers and parts will be an issue in 3-5 years from any dealer since not many parts were made in the first place.  If you can get it at a very cheap price say your 500 bucks they want more for zero more and dealer will come down to your 500 bucks less, then go for it.  Otherwise, walk away and I can bet the dealer will call you up or email you in 1 week and let you have it for your 500 bucks less at your current price.

Here's a thought for you. You're looking at a small two seat sports car with a four cylinder engine for economy. It will always have a certain following just because of the small number made so value in the near term will not be a negative issue. I assume you like it also because it is also a drop top which is where my idea starts to stray a little. You don't mention price but I'm guessing $16-20K for a nice example? If I am close you might want to consider another option. For about the same money you can find a nice example of my choice of mid-life crisis ride....

I bought this a year ago with 49k miles on it for less than any used Sky or Soltice I've seen on the market. Drop tops are a little more and condition affects the price but there are some reasonably priced convertibles out there!

As for economy, this car returned 28 mpg on the trip home from the dealer in Oklahoma City, an 800 mile break-in ride for me. It does have the 6 speed manual in which both 5th and 6th gears are overdrive, automatics give up a little fuel economy unless they come with the standard 2:73 rear end.

I'm 59 now but I was surprised to find that full coverage insurance for my Corvette is cheaper than any other vehicle I own other than the Valkyrie. I know this sounds like a Chevy commercial but I am just as attached to the Vette as I am my Valkyrie.

My only concern with buying a Corvette had always been a comfort issue. I would try one out and walk away wondering why I would want to ride anywhere in a "buckboard" but with the C5 generation, 1997-2004 models, the ride issues have been resolved. I don't believe that the C5's will ever be selling in the $100k range of the mid 60's Stringrays but well maintained models will always be sought after and well valued.

f6john,
Yep, that Vette is a great ride. I'm talking to a private seller on the Sky. The only thing the car seems to need is tires in the near future. I've got him down to $15,500. Trying to get him to $15k.  I told him if he can get to that number, give me a call. It has 37k miles on it.
I have considered a Vette, but I just wanted something different.
I have also wondered how many Skys' were produced?
   Thanks,

I have been a gm tech for 20 years and worked for pontiac for 14 years. I would steer clear of that car. Not that it had any major problems but the performance is very poor for a sports car. they look cool but after riding a valk you will not be happy after day 2 of owning that thing.

If you can pick up a corvette like that for under 20K under 50,000 miles, I'd jump at it over any solstice or saturn sky.  Yah, the looks are cool like said, but the solstice and sky are all looks and no balls under the hood.  I was in a corvette once and was a little tipsy in the passenger seat and that was 20+ years ago when I was in my early 20's and at that time, I had a hard time getting in and out of it way too low for my taste.  Once in, it sat really, really low to the ground like a go-kart and was comfy snuggled inside the bucket seats and held me really well going 70 mph around a 25 mph corner - YIKES - way too scary.  At age 60, don't know if I could get out of a corvette once inside.  2nd childhood???  Evil

That was my thinking. I like the Sky and Soltice in theory and from a pure transportation terms they are fine. The biggest problem facing cars like the Sky is the power to weight ratio. Hard to make cars under todays methods without a lot of added weight. The FRC (fixed roof coupe) Corvette only weighs 300 more pounds that the Sky and with the 300 lbs having an additional 150 hp to move it around it is quite fast.

Not sure if you guys realize this or not but the Corvette and the Valkyrie have one very distinct relationship.......

Just a get around fun vehicle is all I'm after. I really just want a fun back & forth here & there toy. I'm really not too interested in a powerful sports car, if you know what i mean. Been there done that. The owner called me last night. I think he's getting closer to coming to my terms.I'm still bit hesitant to buy it!!!
