Fort Polk is having a gay wedding by a military Chaplin.  Mandatory attendance for all in the unit.  A troopie that is a member of my church has refused to attend and will be written up, and be required to attend counceling.  This crap is going to be career ender for many that have planned to stay in.  Of course the Commanders have no choice if they want to stay.  It rolls down hill all the way from the White House, and if you value your service you better toe the line.

Do they make the gays attend all of the hetero weddings? Why would you want to have people at your wedding that don't want to celebrate your love? Next it'll be all the military Goyem will be forced to attend a Briss? Don't our military brothers and sisters have enough going on without this crap?

I have no problem with Gay marriage, I see no reason to be forced to attend a wedding, gay or straight.  I think that's the problem folks are having here, Advil. I realize military service is not a democracy, having served four years, but mandantory attendence of a wedding is just silly.  I think most folks pass out invitations, an RSVP is the normal procedure.     Hoser   ???

If true then that's a fair complaint. But something tells me there's more to the story than we're being given.

Exacttly!  How can they force you to attend a wedding?  I could care less if they have D*** smokrrs in the military, but weddings are personal, the CIC is way out of linr here.

Surely everyone isn't always required to attend weddings in the military? Hell, I told my kids if they got married during deer season I wouldn't attend.

I'd bet money that Muslim troops wouldn't be required to attend Christian weddings.

I'm gonna raise the BS flag.... I didn't think it was legal in Louisiana for a gay couple to be married.   I doubt it's a federal thing... and I also doubt the "Unit is Mandated to attend a Wedding".

IMO "Marriage" is defined, for me, as being between a man and a woman.   I don't care if 2 women or 2 dudes want to get neked and do their thing or just have a loving and meaningful relationship...  if that is what they want, go for it (provided it is legal in their state, otherwise move)..... but it isn't marriage and should not be afforded the same legalities as marriage.   They can define it as something else, then figure out what that union is legally afforded.

I fir one could care less if there are queers, fags or leses in the military or if they get married. just as long as they dont infringe on my rights with thier rights. gay marrage rights are just like smokers rights.........i am sorry non smokers rights. let them get married as long as they dont frrl that its thier "right" to snuggle on every street corner and park bench and think that they are above the law cause they are gay.

THIS is the problem, not the event.  I guess the Obama admin wants it to look like the marriage is very popular.  Might be bad if only 7 show up!  thus, mandatory.

Basically, IMHO, I think they are just trying to get Medical coverage for each other.      That brings in the Medical Insurance coverage.   I know that Blue Cross - Blue Shield will not cover UNmarried couples.

Are ya seein a pattern here yet?

I served 23 years in the United States Air Force.  I can't remember a time when I didnt know of some gay servicemembers.  They were not discriminated against, they didnt get any special treatment either as long as you kept your mouth shut about your sex life on the job gay or straight.  Yes it was against the UCMJ to perform their brand of sex act as it was for married couple to perform the same acts.  As it was against the UCMJ for unmarried members to have sex..........Sounds dumb maybe to those of you that have never been "in" but thats just how it is (was) Its crazy now!

Back to the UCMJ even though adultery, sodomy and fornication were not allowed no one cared to find out who was doing what to who unless a bigger problem uncovered these violations.  It was the same for straight and gay all was fair.

Obama "solved" a problem that didnt exist by cracking the hornets nest open and now its going to be out of control.

What a shame!

Check the source, I got married while on active duty in the Aif Force in the base chapel and the only attendees were those I invited.  There was no mandatory attendance rule or directive and I haven't heard of them creating one until your post.  What if there were people you didn't want at your wedding?  Whole you have to allow them to attend?
