We are looking to put Sirrius radio in our camper, and I have all of the parts to do it except............I either need a wall outlet that I can install that will accept a cigarette plug (like you would use in your car to charge your cell phone), or a adaptor that would plug into a wall outlet (110 v) and have a plug that would accept what you would plug your cell phone charger into like the cigarette plug in your car.  I hope this makes some sense.  Any and all help will be appreciated.

Thanks-Scooby

I bought a inverter a few yrs ago at wal mart. I plug it into my cig ligther and I could charge my phone with a wall plug charger. I think it had 3 plug in ports. It was like $20. Our ambulances have inverters so we can use wall outlets. But thats high dollar.

Scooby,

Not sure if you have been over to RV.NET but the guys on that forum would probably give you 15 different ways to do what you want in about a 2 hour time period.

Are you powering the Sirius radio directly via cigarette lighter.   The reason I ask is, I still use the older Sportster series radios on the bike and in my work truck.  I use the cigarette lighter in the truck and a direct wired in power cable on the bike.   The Sportser uses docking stations, but wall warts were available for them also.  Either the wall wart or the cigarette lighter cable plugs into the adapter.  Not recommending the old Sportster technology, as they are getting old, but I keep a few around because I have the accessories and they transmit higher power; it makes it nice when I pull up somewhere and other people want to listen to my radio while we are there.

You should be able to power the Sirius reciever off of a wall wart.  Just check on the desired voltage and get a universal power supply at Radio Shack or ???.

If you have to use the cigarette lighter adapter, I would get a cigarette lighter socket and a blank wall plate from the hardware store (install in the plate with box) and then wire in an adapter (with necessary fuses etc.)

Hope that helps,

Craig

you could take the male cigarette lighter style plug off and determine the polarity of the 2wires and then just hardwire it to any 12 volt supply or if you want to make it so it unplugs you can use a 2 wire plug - go to electrical connections website to find options

First thing. Check the voltage of your radio!! They are not all 12 volt. Mine is 6 volt.  Good luck!  Fuzzy

The lighter plug is usually an adapter, changing 12v to a lower voltage to power the devise being used. I'm going to wire in a blue tooth ear piece for a phone into my IS, using the schmatics found on goldwingdocs.com, and to get the power, I was going to "hard wire" the lighter adapter into my bikes 12v system. You just go out and get the right charger for the devise you are wanting powered.
