Ok, you asked, and this is my first comment on this GZ vs. TM subject. I think he is dead no matter what. He goes to prison, the inmates will take care of business. If they let him go, someone who thinks he deserved to go away will do him in. He's a marked man. I'll bet he wishes he never chased down that kid with a gun in his pocket.

If released, there will be riots. If convicted, there will be riots cause there was not enough punishment.
No win situation.

I agree with the assessment of what will likely happen right up until the final unwarranted assumptive leap.
All the evidence available indicates that Zimmerman watched and followed Martin from a distance, exactly as he should've done in his neighborhood watch assignment. The evidence available indicates that Martin returned to place himself at Zimmerman's location. We can only speculate his intent, but surviving witnesses (in the plural) indicate that action resulted being on top of and beating Zimmerman. Were I in Zimmerman's position (on the bottom of a beating) and holding a handgun on my person, I would be in fear that the assailant would take the gun. I don't think he had a choice at that point.
Nothing in the evidence we've been given indicates that Zimmerman "chased down that kid with a gun in his pocket."
The end result of the media induced frenzy is that Zimmerman's life is ruined almost as surely as it would have been had Martin killed him on that night.

I live in the same county as Sanford. We are, as you might imagine, concerned about the outcome of this trial. There have been news reports online and in the local news that the only outcome the TM supporters will accept is guilty with 30+ years in prison. Anything less will result in "riots and civil disobedience". There have been quotes that "Sanford will burn" . We shall see. Everyone was satisfied to hear that a trial would happen, justice will be served via the laws of the land. Now, however we are hearing that various groups are demanding their own outcome, the trial be cursed. Apparently the New Black Panthers and other gang-style groups in Miami that TM may have been affiliated with say they are coming to Sanford to seek their own "justice" , spill blood in the streets and take care of things themselves. Well, as some of my "Crimson Collared" friends are saying.."Bring it" . These groups will be vastly out-gunned and out-manned and no one I know in this area is going to just stand by in nice straight lines while people hell bent on revenge of their own choosing drive around shooting up the place. This could indeed get very ugly and result in blood shed, on both sides. Let's pray for an outcome that allows both "sides" to feel like justice has been served, but don't count on it. It was good for the heads up from these outside groups, gives people time to prepare, and we will be prepared.

And what do you think will be the result when a little background investigation reveals that Trayvon Martin was, in fact, exactly what the neighborhood watch guy suspected he was and was probably doing just what he was thought to be doing? If that happens, will it quench the flames or only fuel them?
I'm pretty sure what's been put into motion already is not reversible at this point.

I'd say at this point there's already enough circumstantial evidence that Mr. Martin was a known burglar and drug dealer thug that was scouting out houses in the neighborhood for his next break in, figured he'd been spotted and decided to take out the person who could finger him as the perp, however the media line that he was just an innocent widdle kiddy going to the store for some candy and a soft drink who was hunted down and murdered by a wild-eyed redneck wanna-be cop is too deeply instilled at this point, facts be cursed.

Everyone was satisfied to hear that a trial would happen, justice will be served via the laws of the land. Now, however we are hearing that various groups are demanding their own outcome, the trial be cursed. All I heard from "camera whore sharpton" and the mother was "we just want him arrested". Well, he got arrested. Now they want more!! What a bunch of liars!! Seems that the easily swayed already have their minds made up that Z is guilty no matter what the facts are. I'll admit when I first heard of this my initial thoughts were of way back when the KKK would go out just looking for any unsuspecting black and hang him for no reason except being black. I was infuriated! IMO that's what the media wanted. But when I started doing research and facts started showing up that weren't reported, or reported wrongly, it pretty much changed my mind. FloridaValkRyder I feel for your position and good luck. I'm glad to hear the people are not going to sit around and just let this happen.

There will probably be quite a bit of delay in this trial....both sides will benefit, and the outcry will diminish... somewhat. As all the known facts come out at trial, and are reported, if a clear and (largely) undisputed case of self-defense is proven, there will be less to whine, spout, incite riots about. However, there is no way I'd abandon my home to rioters. Be on the roof with two well supplied semiauto rifles, helmet and vest (see the Korean shopowners during the R. King riots). Here is where neighborhood watch groups can become well armed and prepared militia.... if necessary. Rioters (and NBC news crews) fair game.

Yup, facts be cursed. Since this whole thing went national, TM's true story trickled out slowly.....that he was 17 and over 6' tall (not the cute little boy of 12 in the pic), drug dealing, jewelry thief, etc. We've also learned that the four top "news" organizations in our country (NBC, ABC, CNN, and the NY Times) all manipulated the facts including altering audio and video and putting in print black vs. white. This has been made widely known yet there is still half the country ignoring these atrocities committed by our press and media. I mentioned the word conspiracy during a group discussion and was deemed nuts by the folks I was speaking with. When I asked, "How do you explain that 4 of the "news" organizations, at the highest level in there fields, all manipulated facts to present the story a certain way?" I was answered with shoulder shrugs and dismissive hand waves. We're not talking about blogs or faggot hilton's web site, we're talking about the major "news" orgs intentionally misleading the public. I can see presenting the whole story and then spinning it a way to make your case, but to manipulate and then spin is disgusting. If we can't go to the "news" for truth, where do we go? And still no fines, not boycotts, no nothing! They were able to do it, divide the country (again) over lies, perpetuate the lies for several weeks, and then go on as if nothing happened when their despicable conduct was exposed. We live in sick times and I fear for our future. There are too many from within who dislike our country and will do anything to undermine civility. And this behavior goes unpunished by the law or the people (viewer and readership has not declined).

The "news" will not allow this. As the press' behavior in this case thus far has demonstrated, they will not allow the outrage to diminish. When the self defense piece is proven, the press will vilify the police for not doing their job properly, the jurors for being idiots, and the judge for letting the case go that way. They have so much invested in it up to this point to just give up and allow justice to prevail. Only THEIR social justice can prevail, even if it has nothing to do with this particular case.

Another scary outcome - From the evidence that has thus far been seen publicly, any judge with an ounce of credibility will throw the case out in a heartbeat. Then, even if that's the right thing to do, it'll cause a major uproar that a jury never got to hear the case, the judge must be racist, etc. etc. etc...

The people around here are not afraid, WILL defend what is theirs..and their neighbors. Any groups who come in to this area with intent to do harm will be stirring a hornet's nest they will wish they had never seen. As stated before, the facts, as known right now, will show self defense. Every lawyer within reach of a microphone has said so. Only 2 people really know what happened, and one of them is deceased, God bless him and his family. This has taken on a political smell as well. Florida's "Stand your Ground " law will be going under scrutiny. The Governor has already appointed a commission to examine the law. It has also given the race-baiters, like Jackson and Sharpton, among others a cause du joir. The facts are already trickling in that TM was a gang member, possible small time drug dealer and thug. As the facts keep coming out, the rhetoric will continue to increase. Every one is wrong except the family and friends of TM. His attorney is dragging this out very slowly to hopefully allow the smoke to clear. And as G-Man said, this unrest is well orchestrated and thought out, not an accident by grieving parents, distorted by the news and very political..at a very odd time. His Mother has been very classy for a person who has lost her son. But she sent him to Sanford because she could not control him in Miami. This will probably get uglier as the trial begins.

...chased down that kid...
Please explain how you came to this determination? Well, on the 911 tape I heard him huffing and puffing. The 911 dispatcher obviously heard that also, that's why he asked Mr.Z if he was following the "kid". If he was walking, I doubt he would be out of breath. I am a fat bastard with asthma and emphysema... and twice as old as Mr Z. I don't become out of breath just walking.

However, since we're speculating here, if the terrain is hilly in this neighborhood and Z was walking up and down inclines, that would make most "huff and puff" to a degree. Plus the anxiousness of following a potential "home invading thug" may lead to some excitment that would probably get your heart rate up too. IMO I think it's a far stretch that the "huffing and puffing" heard on a 911 call means he "chased down that kid". But we all have our own opinions.
