I would like to have a tile roof - they're damn near indestructible, and reminds me of the houses in Germany.

Those poor bats just found somewhere neat to live, that's all.   Grin

I'd love to have the bats near by, but not setting up shop in my roof.

Uh Huh,
I'm a retired roofing contractor.
That's all we did: Slate, Tile & Copper roofs.

The problem there were the tile installs at the walls & valleys,
that's where those pesky varmints got in...
The flashings on that type of roof is simply a controlled leak.
That roof was installed improperly. It may not have leaked, but look what else it allowed.

So, if you happen to have a tile roof your not necessarily going to have that problem.
Unless of course you went with a "discount" contractor.

If there were no bats then you wouldn't be able to leave your house in the summertime. Bats are ENORMOUSLY important in terms of insect control.
