Day 11, 12, 13

Meadows of Dan, VA to Winston Salem -Bowie, MD

The time is 10:49 Monday night, 4/30/2012.  It's been a few days since I've digitzed my thoughts.  Too much fun in Winston Salem to find the time!!

My previous post included the horror of the near bald rear tire, and the ensuing replacement of said tire and front pads.  After that was accomplished, returned to my friends home in Winston Salem and we caught up on the last 12 years!!   Plenty of adult beverages and we were in mighty fine spirits!!
Sunday was a gorgeous day.....a high of about 80 degrees!!  Nicest weather in over a week.  We traveled to Reynolda Gardens, part of the estate of the Reynolds Family in Winston Salem..  A very large park/gardens.   Took a nice walk around one of the "loops".

 Encounterd this snake.

Some thought it was a water mocassion.  Others thought it was something else....

Buddy the lab was enjoying the remants of the lake, which over time has been mostly filled in with sediment.

Took a few photos of Frank and Laura's daughter in the park,

And then returned back home.  Lea, their daughter, was digging the Valk.  Not only one ride, but three!!   After her second spin, I took Laura for a ride.  Of course our ride was a bit longer.  Actually, quite a bit longer.  Lea was not happy that her Mom got a much longer ride than she did!  So when we returned, Lea insisted on one more!!  Of course I obliged!!  Was a great day!!

Today was another one of those "stealth" rain days.  The kind of rain that does not appear on radar, but it is everpresent.  I don't think the light changed all day.  Left WS about 9:15am, (with about 30#'s less cargo.....I filled a big box of stuff to be transported back to STL).....Cold and damp for about the first 200 miles.   WS to Bowie, MD is about 380 miles.  Only stopped for two pictues as the light and conditions were not conducive to creativity.    Here are the two shots of the day.

This church is in Chatham, VA..

And this winery's vineyard is located close to Gordonsville, VA

Crossed over the Potomac on 301 into Maryland, and arrived in Bowie a few minutes after 6:00PM.  Almost nine hours riding.  Needless to say, but I will anyway, was pretty tired.  At anohter friends house tonight, and look forward to a nice nights rest.

Tomorrow will hopefully check out DC.  Perhaps one of the Smithsonian Museums.  I wasn't aware that the Smithsonian is a colleciton of 19 different Mueseums.  That's a bunch!  Of course my preffered choice will be the one that house the pop culture icons....

That's all folks......

And I was thinkin' I'd just cruise for a while
A fork in the road brought a new episode
Don't you know...

Conform, go crazy, or ride a motorcycle...

I'm with Black Dog, Gordon. I'm living vicariously with you and your travels. I look forward to your reports and seeing it through the eye of your lens. Your load has certainly lightened! That has got to feel better. Ride safe my friend.

You'll need a week just to run though the Smithsonian!   Enjoy it.  Bet you'll want to go back.
