So got a pile of parts for the bike again, and have not had any time to do anything besides order more from hotel rooms across the state for the last 6 weeks. So far I have ordered and received a new alt cover and air filter... I also ordered a chrome radiator grill and a set of shock bushings from daryl, neither have shown up yet.  I bought a set of triple tips from Jason a while back, and just picked them up last month and had them here as well.... so it was time to start stripping some stuff off, and adding new stuff to the mix.

I also had a tire rubbing a fender bolt after my 65 series darkside install, so its time to fix that while im there.  After riding to cassoday last month, we found that the new mustang wide touring seat is great for me, not so great for shay, it took up about 1-2 inches of her seat room and then threw a backrest in the mix that sits different than before.

Started by pulling the trunk and both bags/hardware off to get a good look at what im dealing with...

Found that the 10 miles of limestone road we traveled last month for Cassoday baby sitter and filled up every crack and hole.  What a darn mess of nasty dust and neglected chrome...

Bad Bolt!!!! This naughty sob got to meet the bench grinder and lost a little over half its head.  It will not be rubbing my tire any more now.  It was not a bad rub before, just enough to scuff a few letters, not take them off the tire, just ruff them up.

I went ahead and put the shocks on 5 while I was there as some extra insurance as well. I think it only hit on good bumps where we bottomed it out.

Tripple Tips installed!

they did not fit under there the way and rotation that I thought they would, but I think they look good all the same.  I cut 4.5" of the piggies off to get them on, and want to ride it this week to see how i like the noise, might cut more off after cassoday on sunday.

This is how I moved the trunk back.  Used 3"x3/16" flat bar and moved all the holes back 2".  I also used some 3/8" rubber as spacers

So after measuring with rubber compressed, i moved it up half an inch, and back 2 inches.

Another shot of the flat bar in place. Should have painted it purple so it was easier to take pics of with the phone.

This is the top side looking down with the trunk on.

Yeah i was cleaning everything good before putting it on the bike, but got excited and forgot to clean the trunk up good before mounting it... darn it anyway.  oh well, it will clean up where it is too.

I also put on my new Alt cover, but did not take any pics of that...

I got a new summer jacket in the mail today as well.

It is the Field Shear High Flow II mesh jacket for 89 bucks.  It feels good when in motion, but is hot as expected in 90* weather stop and go.  The best part is with the red, black, and silver, it matches my bike nice.  New brain bucket Friday I think.. Anyone want to have lunch in Manhattan Friday?

Going to take advantage of having till Monday off, get some more stuff done tomorrow, button up the back end, put the air filter in, clean all the dust i can find out of it and give it a good shine.  Hopefully my bushings show up tomorrow and I can get them on while im home.

If anyone wants to move their trunk back for extra passanger room, just let me know.  We can do it with all stainless hardware and a piece of flat bar for under 30 bucks and just a couple hours time.  Feels  Just as solid as before to me.

Thanks for sharing. Looking good. Let me know when you have another Friday available for lunch in Manhattan. Mary and I are leaving in the morning with some GWingers to Osage Beach, MO for the weekend.

Looking good DR,  but just a note on that bolt check it from time to time to make sure it is not cracking or deforming, grinding on that head could have changed the tensil strenth of the bolt and it could have made it brittle and or weak from the heat of grinding on it.

Roger that Duck!
It is a grade 8 bolt, and i did not get it super hot, did my grinding in stages while screwing off.  I plan on putting a carriage bolt in there next time i have the tire off and can really get in there good.

Im finished with the parts that I have, and will post up some more pics later.  I even did a redneck garage sale version of GPS Joe that i will have to show off after I test it out and determine that it is even going to work.

I got my shock bushings in today, they installed easy!

Think I was needing them.  uglystupid2

I also needed a new air filter, the pic makes it look worse than it was.

I put the old one on the shelf as a back up.  crazy2

Oh, and no, that is not a brand new fresh laser cut valkyrie hitch sitting there ready to be fitted, bent, and polished.  Yes it is stainless. I think that will be a project for when im closer to putting a trailer together, but it was the right time to have one cut.  Evil

Was in H-D/Honda, seen this for 16 bucks and thought what the heck, I need more chrome.

I like the way it turned out, and it feels nice on my toe.

This is my poor boy dash.  I just used hose clamps to keep it on for now to try it out.  I have some carpet glued to the back to keep the chrome nice on the risers.

Yeah, eat your heart out Joe.  I have been wanting to try out a gps on the bike for a while, but not wanting to spend the money on a good zuma or something. Found this one with all the goodies at a garage sale last summer for 25 bucks, thought if I was to loose or destroy one on the bike, it might as well be a super cheap one.

I also put another piece of velcro on the dash for my mp3 player.  I usually have it velcroed to the riser clamp, but it is blocked now with the dash.   45 miles tonight on some crappy 2 lane roads and all looked and felt great.  It was easy to read and use with gloves on as well. I think this will work well for our longer trips, and the whole thing will come off easy when not needed.

I really like how the view from the back looks now with these pipes.

The trunk does not look out of place after being moved either.

Shay and I took a little 45 mile ride tonight and we both agree that it is more comfortable for both of us. She is still saying her seat needs broke in... Maybe after the 1300 miles we have planned for the next 2 weeks it will feel a little better to her.

Just a poser shot of the bike with my new Jacket and gloves.

Damn, that is a BBW for sure!

Also got a new pair of gloves this morning, they match the bike and the jacket, and feel great.  They have big pads in the palms and knuckle guards on the back side of the fingers. It was 90* here today and it was not uncomfortable to have the jacket and gloves on.

Autozone, 30 bucks, brand new style from mechanix
