Day 15 5/2/2012 Bowie MD to Seneca State Park - Dunmore, WV
A great day.
Although it started out quite questionable, as storms were looming in the West. Last night I was hoping they would have passed, but when I awoke they had still not arrived. NOOOOOOO. I was ready to head West, and my departure was very uncertain.
I was ready to start my "return", as Bowie, MD was my furthest point North and East. The front was NorthWest of Bowie, (about 20 miles NE of DC), and it was right in my planned route. Nice thing about the East coast, one has numerous possible routes to get anywhere.
After watching the front seem to stall, I started packing. If it was at all possible, I was going to be riding. About 9:30, I started packing. I wasn't going to be able to take my intended route, Traveling NorthWest on 50 and entering WV around Wardensville. Instead, I opted for the other Warren route, this being riding through Warrenton, VA.
The 60 miles or so heading around and out of DC was just not pleasant. Dark skies all around, and plenty of road construction/traffic. Several people mentioned I need a trailer. I have one. But I sure as hell did not want to be pulling a trailer around 95/495 in the DC Metro area. Left Bowie on 495 South, and looped around to the South then the West. Picked up I-66 for about 40 miles, where I headed up to Warrensville. It was a big relief to be out of DC/Maryland area.
Still no rain, and a few bits of blue sky were visible in the distance. Could it be a rain free day??? It turned out to be quite nice indeed. Or bet yet, indoubitely. I had programmed the Garmin, and it almost worked as I wanted. As long as I was headed in some sort of Westerldy direction, (and with my tassels, how couldn't I have been?) I was doing ok. Took some great roads through VA, and my first shot of the day was in Luray, VA. A nice tower along the road in Luray, VA.

Continued SouthWest through the Shanendoah and I think also the Appalachins Range??? As I'm (presently) deep in the forest, and my proximty is very close the the GBP Radio Telescope, internet is not an option so I"m guessing on a lot of the names/road numbers...
A few more images from the day.....

Is this where one could find the slave boobies??

Woonder if the say aim for the Telescope???

Am now at Seneca State Park near Dunmore, WV. Very nice place........Got the tent set up in about three minutes thank you very much......Headed back to "town", which is the little store, and even got crazy and had some Hunt Brothers Pizza. After not eating Pizza for almost 4 months, I can't say it was great. But it hit the spot. Got the fire going via some high powered propellant.....And who says it's not smart to carry gas in a saddle bag??? Mutilple uses!!!

Tommorw I'm going to check out the GBTelescope......I think it implies Great Big Telescope, on Route 28 in WV....Then heading to Thurmond, WV to photograph this very interesting old coal town, who's main street is not for vehicles, but trains.
Not quite sure where I will end up tomorrow. I've no clue as to my route nor my destination. Perhaps around the Louisville Area. Anyone have suggestions on nice campgrounds??
