Cars with fuel efficiency ratings considerably higher than what's available here were around when Bush was in office too. Why didn't "The Decider" do anything about it?

I'll bet the oil companies are really broken up about the poor efficiency vehicles that are being sold here in the US.

It's the administration!!!  Shocked

You see, this is bigger than any one executive administration.

I'm still aggravated that the diesel Wrangler isn't offered here.

Government does not want to lose all the road use tax on fuel. If all cars got that kind of mileage, it would cut the budget for road repairs and new construction.

2003 - Barcelona

Rented a diesel Fiat 4 door small car that fitted 4 adults "comfortably".

I thrashed that car for 2 weeks and about 1,250 miles around bumpy bits of Spain and France.

65 mpg in US gallons.

If I hadn't revved the hell out of it I'm sure close to 80mpg would have been achieved. I really thraashed it.

Exactly.  Some states have gone after users of biodiesel because they aren't paying road tax on their fuel.  Wonder when they'll start going after owners of hybrid and electric vehicles for the same thing.  One of the reasons why some states have considered additionally taxing vehicles by the miles they are driven each year.

I would much rather drive my 8.1L big block chevy gas truck 10.5mpg and pay are current fuel prices then trade it for a 1.6L VW car and pay double or more for fuel. I promise I can do and tow way more and have way more fun and do it at a higher rate of speed (if I want to) in my truck than your VW whatever. I don't now about you but I want to live here and so does most of the world. I would invite everyone who likes europe and there ways to move there. You can have your 78mpg and I will take my freedom and way of life here. Wink Wink   Just my opinion and we are still all entitled to one at least for now!!
