I ride through this intersection several times a month, very busy intersection during rush hour.

At least he was wearing protective gear, could have been much worse cooldude

It's no guarantee, but I try to never be the first one through an intersection after a light change. You can see that a large bus like vehicle effectively blocks the motorcyclists vision of the red light runner just before the accident.

If it turns out that the car driver was texting, I'm all for making an example of her in a criminal court.

It won't change until motorists start getting charged and prison time.

Part of our driver training at work:  Mentally say "Green Light Go." before going at a green light. Gives you appx. 3 seconds before you roll out.  Reduces your chances of this exact thing.

All that's great most of the time, but this cager was about 7 seconds into the red.

More than 8 seconds; the light was already red at the start of the vid, driver crossed into intersection at the 8 second mark on the vid.

*Edit* Seems they changed the video.  Before it was just the intersection video, now it's a news clip.

there's an intersection by my house, prill and gateway, were a car runs the red light on a daily basis.  every single day (or atleast when i'm at that light) someone will run the red.  it's as if there's no law against it.

No matter the length of red light stopping cross traffic you should always head check each way as you approach the junction.

How many riders do you know who zip forward as soon as the green light appears???

Maybe they are the ones also sitting in the crap in the center of their lane too close to the vehicle in front with no emergency out and hands off the bars?

That's the trouble with this crash:  I'm not sure what the motorcyclist could have done differently to avoid this wreck.  This was well into the biker's green light, no jack rabbiting there.  The cross view was obscured for the biker from some van/buss looking thing.  Perhaps, he could have gotten off the motorcycle and pushed it through the intersection, like they used to make us do our bicycles when we were kids.

Really pisses me off when I'm riding and see someone crossing the lines near me and then see them still texting. tickedoff tickedoff Or better yet the folks who don't leave themselves enough time in the morning to put on their makeup or run the electric razor, so what better place to do it than in the car on the way to work. Angry
I'm tired of people being so .... inconsiderate while they're driving.
A close friend was hit from behind on his bike early in the morning while stopped in a line of traffic over two years ago. Broken back, collar bone, eye socket, and concussion all because the cage driver just had to find a better radio station right away. He said he never saw the red light, the two lanes of traffic at a dead stop or my buddy before he plowed through them all at FIFTY mph. Med Flight, blood transfusions, stitches, casts, blood clots, rehab, and loss of memory is probably a short list of the stuff I know about because the .... radio didn't sound right.

Geez ........ sorry about the rant, but that video brought back some not so happy times in the hospital waiting for my riding buddy to wake up and trying to console his wife.

Still pisses me off tickedoff tickedoff

Everyone ride safe, please.

Yep double guessing the what if is difficult.

Could he have seen the approaching red light runner if he'd looked behind the van bus thing?

We'll never know.
