I posted this because I didnt know and wondered how many do. Also the last part of this is from the Social Security Administration about benefits that we all are so pissed about. DHS audits have not been performed and actually rebuked. So Bush got this passed and Obama got health care passed. DHS is very suspect for their use of power and what they can do. They are coupled with FEMA and every government agency for use on our soil. All this info is either from Wiki or ss or dhs websites. Also DhS can issue work permits and determine eligibility for SS. I started to look because of the fraud for Itin numbers and found out this info. Why issue Itin either you get a ss number or your out. NOT so today.
Congress ultimately passed the Homeland Security Act of 2002 without the union-friendly measures, and President Bush signed the bill into law on November 25, 2002. It was the largest U.S. government reorganization in the 50 years since the United States Department of Defense was created.
In the United States Federal Budget for 2010, entitled 'A New Era of Responsibility', the DHS was allocated a discretionary budget of $42.7 billion (financial year 2009: $40.1 billion).[16] The end-of-year DHS Annual Financial Report for financial year 2010 showed a net cost of operations of $56.4 billion
The DHS independent auditor is KPMG, one of the Big Four audit firms.[18] Due to the level of material weaknesses identified, KPMG were unable to audit the DHS financial statements for FY 2010.[18] KPMG were unable to express an audit opinion on the FY 2009,[19] FY 2008,[20] FY 2007,[21] FY 2005,[22] and FY
Unless you are a noncitizen who wants to work in the United States, you probably do not need a Social Security number.
Generally, only noncitizens authorized to work in the United States by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) can get a Social Security number. Social Security numbers are used to report an individuals wages to the government and to determine a persons eligibility for Social Security benefits. You need a Social Security number to work, collect Social Security benefits and receive some other government services.
Lawfully admitted noncitizens can get many benefits and services without a Social Security number. You do not need a number to get a drivers license, register for school, obtain private health insurance, or to apply for school lunch programs or subsidized housing.
Some organizations use Social Security numbers to identify you in their records. Most, however, will identify you by some other means if you request it.
We cannot assign you a Social Security number solely so you can get a drivers license or a service that requires a credit check.
Although many companies, such as banks and credit companies, may ask for your Social Security number, you generally are not required to provide one if you dont have one.
If a business or government agency asks you for a Social Security number and you are not authorized to work in the United States, ask if they can identify you in some other way. In most cases, you will be able to get the service or license you need without a Social Security number.
