Hello Brethren,

The Honda Service Manual has contradicting info for the:

Shock Absorber - Upper Mounting Bolt Torque Value

Bottom of Page 312 (14-1) says "47 lb.ft", and

Top of Page 321 (14-10) says "20 lb.ft"

Which is correct?

I'm thinking it's "20 lb.ft", and the "47 lb.ft" on (14-1) is a typo.

Thoughts?

Ed,
I can't reply to the torque values of these bolts but can relate a very recent experience.
I added the upper shock chrome bolt covers and replaced the ugly OEM bolts with chrome.
I promptly lost one from vibration (These buggers are almost $5 each)
Went back to Elliot's and bought another chrome bolt and blue threadlock. No further loss of bolts.
Oh, I just used "feel" not trusting my torque wrench or my experience using it.

I'm thinking 20 ft lbs. That is a very small bolt to torque to 41 lbs. I 've always just snugged them up with a 14 mm wrench and called it good.

If you use 41 lbs, you'll be looking for some new mounting posts.  There are indeed errors in the manual, so if in doubt check the charts in the chapters concerned then use that against the paragraph covering what you are doing. USE the SMALLEST value.
