I am one of the newbies here, and recently purchased a Std Valk.

It came from out of state and must be inspected before I title.

I think it will need a new set of tires for inspection, so I need to get it done quickly.

If your bike needed tires today, and you were going to let someone do the work, where would you recommend?

I talked to DFW Honda several months ago, about general costs and I think they said about 700.00 for new tires.

Thanks,

Larry

If you are looking for a dealer, Al Lamb's Dallas Honda is the DFW Chapter's main sponsor and they do good work.

Find Cody and tell him you are a VRCC member.

Larry,

As i recall, you're in the Bedford area.  Al's is certainly a good choice if you can get over there.  I very much appreciate their support through the years.  They will also typically match internet pricing on parts if you follow Mark's advice above.

But, if your schedule doesn't allow for that, his brother has DFW Honda in Grapevine and the last time I was in there, they had a number of tires on 50% off (don't know that any were Valk sized) and they can do the inspection.  If all you needed were the inspection, I can tell you that I use an inspection only shop one block east of Main street in Grapevine on Northwest Highway.  You can tell the place used to be a filling station, but all they do are inspections, including motorcycles. They rarely have more than one or two in line.

There is also the Cycle Gear on 121 in Bedford, but since they moved into their smaller space due to construction, I don't know if they do tire installs any more. You could call and ask.

And, if you run a quick search, you'll find a post in the last month or so about a place over off Hwy 377 who did a good job for someone here.

Greetings!

ok i wanted to follow up and let you know I purchased a set of tires from DFW Honda, went with the Elite 3's.  Seems to be more good than bad on here about E 3's, maybe next time the Metzlers.

DFW didnt have the best price in DFW, but not the highest either.  I felt comfortable with the service department.

I was told my old ones were pretty bad, and I was surprised at the difference in ride.

$130 was the labor cost...

I will give them a good test run this weekend, going down towards Houston.

Did you take them wheels & tires only, or did they remove and replace them on the bike?  If the latter, please research the Tech Board about how to properly replace the final drive and redo (at least) the part about the last four bolts.  I'm not saying they did it improperly, but if it's wrong and not addressed soon, you'll have an inconvenient and expensive situation on your hands soon.

A bit late, I know, but cycle gear is who I use. I like the Avons, had E-3's, not worn, but getting old. Made a Big difference. Make sure you replace the "stems" if you do not know their age. I did my own installation, just took them the wheels. Cycle Gear is at Brown Trail @ 183 in Bedford. I have a lift, if you ever get in a bind. I'm in Bedford too.

I installed my current Avon Cobra front last July before InZane, but the combination of 1) it already has 13,000 miles on it, 2) the TPMS sensor needs to be replaced, and 3) I'm about remove my 31,000 mile Continental Vanco rear and install a Falken Ziex 512 in 205/65-16 and new TMPS sensor has me looking for a new one.

The one on the bike came from Jake Wilson and they are currently pricing at $186.00 + free 3-day shipping.  That's $80.00 off MSRP, and IMO a good deal.

While knocking around after breakfast today, I popped into Cycle Center of Denton and asked what they get for that tire.  $184 and change out the door!   cooldude   Less than Jake Wilson and the state and county still get their bite.    cooldude

We are fortunate here in DFW to have several good dealerships to choose from.

BTW, they had a clean 2000 Standard on the floor.  Almost completely stock w/29,XXX miles.  Don't know the price.
