Rear End Service almost complete. Just waiting for OEM brake pads to arrive to finish it all up. Thanks to Rainmaker for some technical asisstance and for spotting me the 3 O-rings until my order arrived. My NTM Fat Lady has 17,103 miles. Glad to report the splines and pinion look great. Followed the procedure on Shoptalk and it wasn't too bad at all. Here are some pics of this adventure...   Final Drive Flange with Gear Teeth (Clean, Change O-ring and Moly)  Underside of flange (Clean and Moly)  Right side wheel Hub (under where flange goes) (Clean, Change O-ring and Moly)  Final Drive Teeth (inside the pumpkin - home of the elusive 3rd O=ring) (Clean, Change O-ring and Moly)  Pinion Cup. (Clean and Grease) *** Make sure to clear out two little holes at the bottom of the cup ***  Pinion (Clean and Grease)   Drive Shaft  Rear with Pumpkin off  Rear Wheel Back on. Change Gear Oil while at it, That's a wrap. |

I need to change the rear end fluid on my Tourer and wanted to know if this was a better way to refill. I was under the bike for a few hours Thursday wondering the same thing and then see BIG EDs post that night.
I'm not trying to say ED did it wrong, but he may have found a better way to do it. T.P.
Jimmy and I both thought it looked like it was removed, maybe not.

I got a good final drive from Pinwall when I first got my Valkyrie, it had a dented breather cap. I ordered a new one, and went to taking the old one off... by the time I got it off, it was even more mangled than it was to begin with... -Mike |

This is the draining and refilling process that seemed best for me. - bike lifted with shocks off - place another jack under the rear wheel and gently lift it until the tire barely touches the fender - this positions the pumkin at an angle best for complete draining and refilling without any spilage. I used a small medicine cup to measure the 150 cc (same as 150 ml) and a small medicine siringe to refill. No need to remove the vent cap. Just the drain plug and the refill plug.  |
