Ya never know how many good Summers ya have left.

This morning I got the rear wheel pulled and got the new tire on....Pulled the pumpkin to clean, and when I turned it on end to be sure the holes in the pinion cup were clear....WATER CAME OUT!!!!!  Whats up with that?????
There was quite a bit of rust in the outside bottom of the pinion cup area.  The only area I can imaging the water coming from is the boot at the U joint....
Pulled the swing arm and the U joint... could see a rust line running down inside the housing for the driveshaft....  Cleaned everything up... U joint looked ok.... put it all back together... and made sure the rubber boot was on good.  Saw no cracks or holes in the boot...
I will need to keep an eye on it!!!!
Flushed the rearend several times.. til it drained clear.... put it all back together... Mobil 1 75/90...  put the wheel back on.... the realized I had bought more lights for the rear... and It would be easier to work it from the back if the wheel was not there.... pulled the wheel... hooked up the lights, re-installed wheel.. torqued axel. torqued pumpkin, put the shocks back on....  Time ta take a break....  It's 10 pm... and I just came in the house.
By the way... new O-rings all round...

I used a Bel-Ray moly lube on the splines... and a Bel-Ray waterproof grease on the shaft splines.
All the splines and driveshaft/u-joint  connections looked good.  Will continue to look for water in the rearend.....  none of the o-rings looked bad...  At least I know now that the boot at the u-joint  on properly...  Like I said... I will keep an eye on it.....

Now I just have ta figger out which is my good eye.... coolsmiley

It really sounds strange having water there.  When you changed the engine oil, did you have any water in there?  Just wondering if this bike might have spent some time a bit "submerged".

Very happy you caught the problem before it became a really big one.

Never been under water as long as I have had the bike....Where is Subman when ya need him..LOL
I went thru the rearend when I got the bike... and every 10k miles since..  this was the 3rd time.... no water before.
It looked like the front end of the boot had come out of the groove....I have ridden in some pretty good rains... but no standing water.  there was maybe a 1/4 oz of water... but that's tooo much...
