Cool website, thank you.

It really sucks. 40 years ago there were little airports everywhere. It was once thought that cars would eventually give way to small aircraft and that flying would be affordable for the common man. That never really materialized and land just became more valuable as development so a lot of those airports are now dust and weeds or cement and vinyl siding. Meanwhile, even busy airports can't make ends meet. I see so many nice airplanes sitting around rotting away because their owners can't afford to keep them airworthy (or at least current).

I'll tell you what though; if you love aviation and can take the change of pace then go north because Alaska and Canadia are BOOMING. I have deep roots down here or I'd go.

California - Northern Palmdale Area; adjacent to Liberty field was War Eagle Field:

The Polaris Flight Academy (renamed the Mira Loma Flight Academy) ended its training operations at War Eagle Field in 1945,

but Liberty Field apparently remained in operation as an airfield for a few more years.

War Eagle Field was abandoned for about ten years. L.A. County took possession and converted the facility to a county jail (Mira Loma). The half with barracks and hangers and such was fenced in for guests of the county. Across the street was "employee" housing. Dad was a L.A. County Deputy Sheriff, who back then served as a guard at the jail. I lived there for 10 years, in what was a hastily constructed military base in the early '40s for flight training. It is located at Ave. I & 60th St. West. In the '50s it was seemingly in the middle of nowhere. Nothing but Jackrabbits and tumbleweeds. Haven't seen the place in many years.  A bit of trivia . . .

Don't know if I didn't navigate through the site properly or it's not finished because i don't see Victoria, Tx on it.

There are two abandoned WWII military related airfields here.
One was huge and, to my understanding, every naval pilot came thru here for advanced training. Including George Bush 1.

I was watching a show about the Black Sheep and one member, Tex I think, talked about his stint in Victoria and that is when/where he met his wife.

The huge one had concrete runways and all and for years was abandoned to where huisache/mesquite over took it, but the runways were still there.  I always thought that was such a waste.  Now there is a bunch of oilfield equipment/companies there.

The other one, a grass field, during WWII was used just for storage of aircraft.  This one was across the street from my house and up till about 2 years ago was a privatly owned airstrip. One of the main reason I moved here.

Now it's a high dollar housing addition. DAMMIT!!!

UPDATE:
OK, found one of them. In the Northeastern Corpus Christi area.
