Tesla was a genious.  he makes edison look like an idiot, problem was, edison was his boss so that's why you don't hear about his inventions, edison took credit for many of 'em.

I didn't look at the articles, but, Nicklaus Tesla was one of the original mad scientist.. The remains of his factory and part of his high voltage transmission tower are still on Long Island.. There was a huge rivalry between him and Edison.. Edison was stubborn insisting on DC while Tesla discovered and advocated AC.. Tesla won the rights for lighting the worlds fair which pissed off Edison and Edison refused to sell light bulbs to him.. Tesla then invented his own bulbs which actually were nicer and more reliable than Edisons and were the first plug-in bulbs.. Westinghouse bought the AC rights from Tesla for $60K but royalties still made him a wealthy man.. A neighbor of ours in Florida has a new Tesla roadster,, neat little car..

Tesla was brilliant, but also disorganized and flighty. He was what we today would call an "idea man". He could have found a workable solution to FTL travel and never put it on paper because he was distracted by something shiny.

after reading a little about Tesla, I wonder why the idea of wireless electricty transmission seems to have died with him.

Because it's difficult to put a meter on it and charge for it...

ya think?
I know that part, just curious. If we can make ga-zillions from ponzi schemes, somebody should be able to make a buck off wireless electric.
No poles, no holes, no copper/aluminum wires. Seems like a useable idea.
Maybe electric cars could be viable?

I'm pretty sure he qualifies as mensa he may be a little too shy to talk back.

word is before his death he spent most of his time feeding pidgeons and not yakking at anyone.

well Sir issac newton was brilliant but couldn't talk to the ladies. sensing a trend here....

It not because of metering really. It could be donePower plant to substation would be a good application. But substation to home would be really hard to pull off.

It's more due to the fact that to transmit power over distance you essentially have to turn it into focused microwaves. That can have troublesome consequences when it goes wrong.
