I bought myself a Honda Valkyrie in Dubai in 1999. The model is GL1500C-2V, year 1997.
I have now brought this bike to France, but it seems like I will have a problem with the registration as my specific model has never been commercialised in France or in the EU! This can not be right? Can someone please confirm if this is correct?

Can you post pics?  The valk was sold in Europe, not sure about the 2V part though.  What is the whole VIN number?

"C" means its a pre-2001 Standard
"2" means 2-tone paint
"V" means its a 1997

You can tell by the VIN whether it meets European standards or not.
SC340   =   Valkyrie Standard - US 49-State models,  pre-2001 (some reported in Singapore)
SC341   =   Valkyrie Standard - US California models,  pre-2001
SC342   =   Valkyrie Standard - Canadian models,  pre-2001(some reported in Brazil)
SC346   =   Valkyrie Standard - US 49-State, 2001 and on
SC347    =   Valkyrie Standard - US California, 2001 and on
SC348    =   Valkyrie Standard - Canadian models, 2001 and on

SC34A    =   Valkyrie Standard - UK, Austrian, Belgian, French, Spanish and Swedish models
SC34B    =   Valkyrie Standard - German models
SC34C   =   Valkyrie Standard - Swiss models
SC34U   =   Valkyrie Standard & Tourers - Australian models (Standards & Tourers differentiated by serial number blocks)
SC34-   =   Valkyrie Standard & Tourers - Japanese models (Standards and Tourers differentiated by serial number blocks)

Only two things you have to do to get the bike approved in the EU.
You will need a "CE" marked headlight and a test telling the noice level (max 85dB)
You will get all technical documents from TÜV in Germany.
And of course, you need the original Title.

I have a "CE" headlight in my garage. I will not sell it, but you can borrow it so you can get the bike approved.
Send me a email and I`ll give you all details with contact person with TÜV.

Hi Bro, I'm from France and yes it's very difficult with the registration
it's not impossible , but very difficult
Dag said what you will have to do

I say all is all right but  for France it's necessary to ask Honda France all the documents(TÜV is for Germany, not good in France)(excuse me Dag)
and after you go to see UTAC, and after the DRIRE and after "the Pefecture" for the licence plate...... they are 3 administrations very hard
I think you will need a good friend in France for this job
some questions : why you have now brought this bike in France ? and where? and have you got a good  friend(French) near you ? do you speak French ?  just a little or not ?
send a pic of your Valk  please , maybe you can ride with your stranger Valk in France if you stay just some months(not 2 years lol)
I can ask for you the French administration and send to you some documents
later
Jean from France

Sounds like it might be easier to sell the Dubai bike and buy a French one with the money. Sounds like a lot of French hassle, especially if you don't speak French administrator speak.

European Union
The EU has developed a single market through a standardised system of laws which apply in all member states, ensuring the freedom of movement of people, goods, services and capital. If a vehicle is "approved" in one EU country it is "approved" in all.
There is much ignorance by authorities. I have imported 5 motorcycles to Norway and the easyest way to get them approved is by TÜV in Germany. Germany is a member of the EU so therefor it`s approved in all other EU countrys as well.
I`ve had some discussions with authorities here in Norway because they dont know all the new EU laws. The second last bike I imported to Norway, a 2003 VTX 1800 was not tested by TÜV in Germany, so I didn`t know where to get the required documentation to get the Norwegian registration plate.
I asked for a print of the EU laws about imported vehicles. I spent a few days reading (using a yellow text-marker) Actually we don`t need any documentation other than manufacturers description. Total weight, distance between front and rear wheel, total length & hight, motor effect, motor sice etc.  -all technical details. That must be on a approved 3rd parts or manufacturers paper.
I brought these papers together with my notes (and the VTX USER MANUAL)to the authorities. In the user manual I could find all technical detalis and its printed on manufacturers paper. I left one hour later with the new Norwegian registration plate on.
