I have a 99 Standard set up for solo.  I am 6'1" about 225lbs, 34 inch inseam.  I still have the original shocks on my Valk and would like to replace them with Progessives.

I would like to raise it (the seat) about 1 inch higher. (Originals already set on highest setting)

What shock does anyone recommend and what length?

Thanks,  Mark

If your ride is fine, then why not just add an air bladder (forget what they call those cushions) and "sit on it".

I dont think you can go higher.
13 inches for shocks is max I believe.
Im new to the bike and could be mistaken.
I just took off a set of Progressive 440s.
Very stiff ride even on the softest settings for me.
I put on a set of OEM Monday on the middle 3rd setting.
Rides not a heck of alot different to me.
Still stiff but a bit more rebound.
Same weight as you, solo setup too.
I have to get a spanner wrench so I can try the OEMs on 1 and 2.

If I put on my double seat that raises me up a bit more.
The stock solo seat I have is good for me but Im 5'10 with a 30 inseam.

With your height/weight I'd get Progressive 13" 440 HD's. The spring rate will raise the rear a bit but you'll appreciate the ride and improved handling in the corners.

+1  cooldude

I don't have experience with them, but people also really like Works Performance shocks,
and there's a VRCC supporting vendor who sells those... http://www.xf6-custom.com/

Air Hawk is the air bladder cushion, I use one on the driver seat and the passenger pad. cooldude

Same set up here, Progressive 440's 13".  At 6'2" and 205, it will raise the rear end of the bike about an inch which gives you a little more clearance in the twisties.  Since I ride sole and have the back seat removed, I had to send the Progessive shocks back a few times to get things right.  The HD shock was too stiff for solo, so I had them heat treat the spring.  All is well for over 15 years.

My 440s are also going back.
I hope they will put in the regular spring.
With the HD spring commutings a bit on the harsh side.

The 440s are a bit on the high end of things but they may be for you.
Id look into the 412s too.
Similar and a heck of alot less expensive.
Ive been reading the Progressive site and there is alot of options there.
