Albuquerque NM

Yesterday SCain, Chooser and Myself rode up to Las Vegas NM to do a trial run for Saturdays ride for the NMRideIn. Wow, what a ride. For all the people that are meeting us, you are in for a treat.

All of us forgot our cameras, but you will see the true beauty of Northern New Mexico. We took off heading north on 518 past Storie Lake to Mora. We turned onto 434 where we rode past the Llama and Alpaca ranch and through the twisties into Guadalupita. More mountainous roads and winding over Coyote Creek a couple times. A lot more twisties and came out at Black Lake. Turn left and headed into Angel Fire. We pulled over to put some warmer gear on. It was about 62degrees. There was a little breeze. My cousin just happened to be driving by and pulled over to say hey. 434 dead ends into 64. About 1/4 mile to the right is the Vietnam War Memorial. It will be packed next weekend Red River Rally is Memorial Weekend and it is about 25 miles further on the enchanted circle.

We turned left on 64 (I personally think it is the best part of the enchanted circle) and headed to Taos. We did the bypass and ended up in Ranchos De Taos. There are quite a few great restaurants in that area. We talked about topping of with gas but didnt need to. We ate lunch there and headed back to LV via 518. I hadnt ridden the upper part of 518 in a while and forgot how beautiful it was. Going past Si Pa Pu is just gorgeous. Plenty of great photo opps every where.

When we got back to Mora, we turned onto 94. It almost looked like a driveway. I thought, this may not be a good road. I have never been so wrong in my life. It was wonderful, I wish I had known about it before. We rode it back to 518 and back to Las Vegas. A total of 167 miles. I only used 3.4 gallons of gas. Steve used the most with 3.8 gallons. I couldnt believe I got almost 50mpg.

As we were filling up in Las Vegas getting ready to return back to Alb, a valk trike pulled into the gas station. I introduced myself and found the couple had come from AZ heading to Kansas. Greg and Diedra had been given the trike from her dad. They had never heard of the VRCC. Hopefully they will be new members.

here is the link to the ride.

No pic's WT...? That's sacrilege!  Angry

I've stopped in on a couple occassions at the Memorial there in the Angel Fire area during Memorial weekend and it wasn't too bad traffic/people-wise.

Sounds like a nice route, looking forward to it.

I won't get out there until Saturday a.m. myself.

I do have a couple that would like to make it out for the Sunday BBQ and they were asking about a sign up just for that and possibly what time?

Chuck,

I really hate to miss this year's ride with y'all... No mystery to me why you moved the venue to Las Vagas, because that area, even though not all that far from Tucumcari, has vastly different weather, scenery, and general feel to it.

I have yet another graduation to attend down in Florida, so I'll be battling traffic, heat, and boring ceromonies while you all will be riding those superb twisty roads in the cool mountain air through some of the most beautiful country in North America!!! Know that I will be jealous!!!

I had no difficulty at all conjuring up mental pictures of the area your group ride will traverse. You lead me all around that area many, many times once upon a time, and I still regard those months as some of the best times I've ever had... Thanks for helping me make so many wonderful memories... and for bringing them back to me here... Later, my friend.
