You know... the tape they use to make the stripe transitions from one color to another?
Just curious. If it's available, and affordable, I am thinking of using it on my hard bags that are getting painted. If not... I'll just let him paint them I guess.

HDL still shows it on their parts list, whether it is available I don't know. http://www.hdlparts.com/fiche_select.aspHave a look at the gl1500x stripe@mark screen. My 98 lists out at 347.14 for all the tape. I figure Pin stripping might be cheaper but don't know for sure. Hope this helps you.

Let me know what you find out about the stripe kit. I am going to have some bags painted also. I have a small sign biz, so I'm thinking about programming the correct curves and widths to use for mine. Some of the stripeing (such as burgundy on the green/cream) is metallic. I prefer to stripe with paint, but since the factory uses clear over tape, thought I would use that for authenticity. I will be using orange for my blue/cream bags. Don't think hand striping with tape will work when manuevering the small radius without stretching and distorting. I plan to use a high perf. vinyl to avoid shrinkage, also it's much thinner. So I'm thinking I'll cut & mask the whole mess with transfer tape.

I would imagine it would be a painters nightmare to have the two tone match excactly to the stripes. When I had my bags painted, I had them paint the stripes and you can't tell a difference between factory.

His plan is to paint the stripes...
I just thought I'd give him the option...
Doesn't hurt to ask.

I had to have my right saddlebag repaired because of a boo-boo..... (well the bike slid on its side for like 15 ft after getting rear ended...)
I looked at replacing the factory pinstripe.. until I saw the cost!
Guy that painted it used tape that matched and you cant tell its not factory until you get right up close- like 4 inches.... most people don't even know its been fixed....... Or Valk guys who know better!

Just put an Interstate tank on my Standard, the OE tank had a red Skunk stripe with a pin stripe on each side of it. Didn't even think about trying to find the original tape used, just had it painted. I've asked others to take a look at it, I can't tell it's not original and they can't either. Painter did a great job on the stripes.

My painter just painted the stripes on too.
Looks good. On both IS tank on std, and on the IS bags on the std.

Here's a photo of the stripe on my bag. It was painted on, hard to tell the difference between the decal on the fenders. If your painter is good, they can make a perfect match.

I used to own an early GL1000K0-K3 GOLD WING's small collection. I purchased the entire set of "original" stripes on eBay... several times. If I recall correctly, the FULL set was under $25. (2006 USD)

When I painted my saddlebags, I was able to get maroon pinstripe tape from Napa (I think it was a 3M product) that matched the color and width of the original pinstripe exactly. The tape was actually a double stripe, but I just cut it with a razor blade. It definitely isn't as nice as a painted stripe, but then again, neither is the OEM decal.
