I'm rooting for Danica.
Her experience should finally pay off.

It was always nice working the race and watching her jog around the place at 6a. Kinda miss that part of it!  Cheesy

Glad I'm not there this year. Gonna be 95 deg here and would be even hotter in the stands.

She's for show, not go.

I don't watch or listen to the 500 anymore.   Of course i'm from the Firestone tires, Offenhauser engine era.  Notice I said engine, not motor. Grin

Danica is not in the race this Sunday.  There are three female drivers but she is not one of them.  I am gonna be watching the race from the finish line, six rows up!  I was a good boy this year so Santa provided the tickets plus a suite at the Marriott for the weekend.  Only a 14 hour drive to get there and I am looking forward to it.  Can't put the SO plus a son on the Valk for the trip so we will be in the cage.  Oh well, the sacrifices we make.

I respectfully disagree Wayne.  If she didn't have the go, she'd have never been there in the first place.....she's got the talent to be there.  I think her handlers promote the show part simply because she cleans up good.

Yep....that she is....and I agree.   cooldude

But it's still only because she cleans up pretty good.   If she wasn't Go Daddy material, nobody would be paying that much attention to her.

I will DVR it along with the 600 that evening. I used to go back in the mid to late 80's. Still had Buick V-6 engines then, I could tell the difference cause they were a deeper sound than the others. Watched Emmerson win and hell, who was it that won with the broken back? I think the only girl then might of been Sarah Fisher. She always has had alot of poor luck. Oh yeah, saw Arie Lyundyke win too.
I remember when Stewart and Robbie Gordon used to drive the 500 then fly to Charlotte just in time to start the race from the rear since they'd miss the drivers meeting. That's alot of driving.

Been there in person once, that was enough for me.  Not even interested in watching it on TV even if Danica was racing naked.   I simply don't agree with lesser drivers (regardless of her looks) getting all that attention.  I won't say she's all show and no go but, she's definately more show than go.  Honestly if she was fugly or a guy, she most likely wouldn't have a ride with her talent.

Seems interesting to me that another driver can take her old GoDaddy car and put it in the front row this year. Yes, I know, new chassis, new aerodynamic package, etc.  Still find it interesting.

Talking about the cars instead of the pulchritude,  I remember that I went to time trials in the ,50's
Offenhausers mostly but also one diesel powered, a six wheeled car, (I think), the Novi Governor (V8 screamer). all running on Firestone tires, nothing like today .   Overall, it was more interesting to watch people in the infield....sometimes.

Little Indy trivia for ya.

The rearview mirror was invented by a driver entered in the 500. Up til that time all indy race cars had 2 people. A driver and a mechanic/spotter. This gent entered and felt he didn't need the mechanic and the other drivers complained he wouldn't be able to see behind him as far as being passed and would be dangerous. He installed a large mirror and was able to run.

Don't know how he did offhand though.

Also, FWIW, I am really tired of Danica as well. 43 drivers in a stock car race and she gets the overwhelming majority of the coverage. Even as she runs around with Nemecheck, Speed and the other back markers. Seems like the only time I see the leader sometimes is when they are putting her another lap down. A couple races ago, Danica was covered nonstop and there WAS another girl racing as well. I don't remember her name, but she was 19 and I believe from Florida. When Kyle Busch was 19, it was all "what a feat for this young man to be here, blah, blah, blah."  This young woman makes the show and because of danica, you barely even knew it.

I think the female racing Indy back then was Janet Guthrie (late 1970's) or maybe Lyn St James? Janet's last Indy 500 attempt was in 1980. Sarah Fisher's first Indy 500 was in 2000.
