Trip Report Days  6, Hinton, OK to Amarillo

About 5:07 AM.  Guess I'm experiencing Valk Lag.  Time Zone change yesterday to Mountain time as we crossed into New Mexico.   Not a great night of sleep.  Left the phone in the bags.  Probably A good thing I didn't know it was about 4:00 when I awoke.  But I'm getting ahead of myself..........

Left Hinton, OK Wednesday morning en route to Amarillo.  I met Stan at his hotel and took advantage of the shower and we were on the road shortly after 8:00AM.  Headed South to pick up 66, and soon were riding the Mother Road.  Wind advisories were out of the day.  Is it really necessary to let us know it is going to be extra windy?  Pretty easy to figure out.   I've already forgotten plenty of the day, so I'll let the pictures do most of the talking!!  (Is that cheering I here?)

Some parts of 66 are traveled so little, the weeds are the centerline...

The Great Glancy Motor Hotel in Clinton, OK

Elk City National Route 66 Museum

The Western Motel in Sayre, OK

Erick Oklahoma in front of Harely and Annabelle's Sand Hills Curiosity Shop

Crossing into Texas

Shamrock Conoco.....

Twas a very windy day, and the “climb” to Amaraillo, about 3500 ft elevation, combined with about 98 degree heat, was not really pleasant.  (worst thing of all, swithed to reserve at 81 miles...Wind, Elevation, Trailer makes for bad fuel economy!!)

Arrived in Amarillo and headed to my friend Bob Croc Lile to visit his new art Gallery on 6th Street....

Later, went out to dinner in style.......64.5 'Stang....

Had some decent fajita's at Bracero's on 6th Street,

Then headed to the Cadillac Ranch for what I was hoping to be a nice sunset shot.  The sunset was great, but not what I had envisioned.  Plus we were late as Bob was a slow poke eating!!

Headed back to Croc's house, and crashed there for the night.  Up early and headed to Albuquerque.  I'd continue with the report, but my card reader is @%^&@%& up so I need a new one.  Who wants a report without pictures?  Right....

It is 6:00am straight up.  I'm waiting for the office to open so I can do some laundry, as my socks are ready to spontaneously combust!!

Hopefully I'll be meeting some new Valk friends today and heading to Las Vegas, NM for the ride!!

Giddy Up!!

Whatever it is, it's better in the wind.

On a road less traveled.

Thanks for sharing!!!

After you pass through Albuquerque about 45 miles west is exit 117. After exiting from the Interstate make a quick left on to Old 66 (SR 124). You can ride this highway all the way to Grants from here. It's a much better ride than the Interstate especially with the winds in that area and it is the original RT66.
