I got mine in the mail yesterday and Judy got hers today........legal now!
My picture looks like an axe murderer though (worse than most mug shots)....its so bad that one would have to laugh as the dude (or dudette) that makes the cards places that card with that picture in the mail so that person can carry a concealed handgun........I love it!
Between the Agriculture folks and the DMV they can mess your face up from 5 feet away, yet Google can take a picture of a rock on the moon with stunning clarity......go figure

Is your pistol license actually called a "CCW" or a "CPL" (concealed pistol license). I've been told by a cop that if your stopped and you say that you have a CCW, that might be construde as a threat.
After attending a daylong CPL class, that was drilled into us by both cops and lawyers as well. MI is quite anal about what is considered to be a threat to police.

Here's how they take your driver's license picture in South Carolina:
The person running the camera asks you if you are ready, and as you're nodding "yes", a second DMV employee comes up behind you and puts a live mackerel down your pants. Then the camera operator pushes the button...

A lot of my friends that have CPLs, now just wear their guns in open holsters (open carry). One less question or hassle to deal with.
Not me though, I'd rather be "STEALTH".

Yeah, Id like to open carry too sometimes, but Florida is NOT an open carry state even if you have a CWFL unless you are hunting or going shooting but that would be hard to prove if you are driving, that that is where you are going

Hey Jeff, it has always been my opinion that all govt picture IDs for men should make you look like a felon. (so you did good! ) If you don't look evil and mean, you didn't get a good picture. All of my active duty, US Gov, and driver's license IDs over the years are no smile, 1000 yard stare, squinted eye shots, just like I want them. Even had a DMV lady ask is that what you want? You bet!On the other hand, my ex would not go for an ID photo without full preparation, lip gloss, eyeliner, nice clothes and a big smile. All for a tiny ID pic. Go figure. (I will admit that she looked far better than me under all circumstances.)

Couple points.
First, CCW traditionally is the abbreviation for the crime of "carrying a concealed weapon." It has morphed into the generic term for a permit to carry a concealed handgun (not weapon, since most States and localities still have various and widely inconsistent laws prohibiting the concealed (and unconcealed) carrying of certain (length) knives, dirks, stilettos, switchblades, nunchucks, kubatons, mace, or an M4 rifle under your trench coat, and various other tools of mayhem. And of course, having a permit to carry a pistol does not exempt you from these other laws. The actual name of the permit to carry varies from State to State, and none of them are called a CCW, but that is the street slang.
Also, a requirement to immediately inform police of the fact you are carrying with a valid permit as soon as they are talking to you only exists in some permit States, and not others. Failure to do so in TX is grounds to revoke your permit. Here in VA there is no such requirement, but as soon as your license is retrieved from your hand, walked to the police car and run thru the computer, your name comes up with a blinking red light, and when the officer returns to your car, his hand is on his pistol, he stands behind your drivers window, and you get a loud lecture in customs and courtesy expected of VA citizens. You only do it once.
Since LE and valid permit holders are supposed to be on the same side vs criminal behavior, handing the officer your license, registration and carry permit when he first comes to your window is considered the right thing to do. It is essential you know the law and procedure (and what is expected of you) on this in your own State.
The trickier issue is when you are pulled over out-of-State. You better already know for certain the reciprocity rules for the States you travel thru. Assuming I am in a State which recognizes my permit, if my pistol was on my person, I'll probably hand him my permit as well. His computer will not show my permit. Although my State does not legally require me to immediately inform the officer of the permit and weapon, do I know what the requirements are in all my reciprocal States? (no I don't, but I will before I travel)
(Having just been pulled over for speeding) most people with permits have come to the conclusion that verbally informing the officer that you have a weapon (on you or in the console) and a permit comes across as belligerent or threatening, and that the best way to communicate this fact is to hand over your license, reg, and permit without comment. As soon as he sees the permit, he'll ask you what and where.

In Arkansas it is called a "Concealed Handgun Carry License." I took both my kids (27 Girl, 25 Boy) through the course in February. Word of advise, Do Not offer to show the Officer your quick draw...(Just kidding)
I would not "open carry" as one can never under-estimate the least common demonator person around you...
Thanks to ALL that served.

In Colorado they call it a concealed weapons permit. A great site for more info is: http://www.carryconcealed.netThe site includes a neat feature where you click on your state, and it displays a map of the states that honor your permit. It is worth checking this kind of info out when you travel, because there's a wide variety of carry restrictions, especially in places that sell alcohol and in public buildings.

Some tips on carrying concealed:
Do NOT carry your permit in your wallet. EVER! If you ever get mugged, and do not have a good opportunity to evade or draw, the bad guy will know you have a gun on you...bad things are sure to ensue. Or, if you are lucky enough to avoid that, you'll suddenly be armed with no method of proving you are legally allowed, and at the scene of a crime, no less.
Get a small wallet or permit carry case and carry your permit as far away from your weapon as possible while still on your person. The last thing you want is to go reaching for your permit to show a cop, a puff of wind blows or some clothing drifts away from the holster, and the cop sees your gun before the permit, or worse, thinks your going for your gun instead of the permit.
Use a holster. Preferably a lot of them. That whole thing about slipping a gun into a waistband or pocket is pure movie nonsense, and a good way to send a bullet into a thigh, cheek, or much more vital components. Different holsters will allow you to carry in any weather and any activity.
Practice drawing. A lot. With an UNLOADED gun. Every time you use a different holster, every time you put that holster in a different spot, and every time you wear significantly different clothing. Make sure you can safely and confidently pull that weapon out and bring it on target without getting caught on something or accidently pulling the trigger. A slow or clumsy draw can be more dangerous to you than just hauling tail.
Most folks do 'checks' to ensure the gun is safe and secure, usually moving and arm or hand over the area now and again. Most folks aren't aware their doing it. On the other hand, most cops and many bad guys can spot this behavior a mile off and know exactly what it means. This means you need to be aware of your surroundings and prepared to encounter a mighty nervious cop, possibly several.
A small of back (SOB) holster is very handy, but I've been told they're a bad idea on motorcycles due to the risk of spinal injury if one stops riding the bike before the bike stops needing a rider. Sounds plausible. I wear a Blackhawk holster or a gun vest when on the bike, mainly because I'm too tall to give up saddle space, and the gun/holster combo tends to get caught up in the backrest. I tried an ankle rig, but it bumped into the engine.
