Ok, wait....................alright, I have the flame suit on now...

A few things that torque my jaws, and I hope some others too; maybe we can encourage some change back to how it used to be in here.

When you have a part to sell, and you want maximum dollars for it...PUT IT ON EBAY and let the auction roll, I hope you get a million bucks for a set of bag rails but dont post your EBAY auction here, we know what the stuff is worth and would not want to compete with the dummies out there on EBAY

(my appologies to anyone that got suckered into an EBAY sale of too high a price)

Ok next, when deciding on a price for your part.  It really doesnt matter what YOU paid for it, especially if you bought it new or worse yet on EBAY because you dont get investment dollars back on bling items generally...(there are exceptions like the Cobra rad covers DANGIT!!!)  So, generally 50% of new is a fair starting point.  And another thing....Please set your price.........this "make me an offer" and Ill go with the higher bidder and my price will keep going up if the bidding is good.....well, thats just like FleaBAY and I think its rude (JMHO)

One of the best things about this club is the sharing between members.  So theres several price scales in my mind and hope in the rest of your minds

--New Cost

--Fair market retail.....what you would get from insurance if you wreck

--EBAY auction....(dont try to get these prices from me)

--VRCC price which is like the family discount.

I have never sat down and figured up how much cash I missed out on by trading within the club for used parts but to me its one or the other.

You are either in it for the money...or in it for each other.  I choose the latter

Last thing I sold here was a set of triple tips for less than 100 bux.  I think thats fair, sold some stock tourer tips on ebay for 125 bux and I agree with your post.  Hoser   cooldude

Chrisj CMA-point taken and doing business here on the board. Wink A member on this board was/is needing a bra for his I/S. I sent him mine on an approval. Cool If he doesn't like it he ships it back to me and i'm out a little over 10 bucks. That aint gonna break me. I have a used armored mesh jacket coming my way from another board member. coolsmiley He is trusting me to do the right thing as i'm trusting the guy that wants the bra to do the right thing. Cheesy So at least three club members are trying to keep this in house. Smiley No one ask me prices as i won't divulge them. cooldude RIDE SAFE.

Was recently looking for a set of fork guards, a fellow member contacted me just asking my address and said, I'll send them to ya and you decide if their worth this much.  I offered to send payment in advance, he declined.  Now, I'm gonna tell ya, I've been on the short end of several deals because, I'd rather pay and know that no one can say I cheated them.  But, I've been cheated several times before.  I was rather surprised he was willing to send the guards without payment.  BTW, they are priced reasonably.

There are those in it for the money and I don't blame them but, now that I've been in the group for a while now, I'm learning who's "For Sale" threads to open and who's I should expect what  from.
There are quite a few good folks out there still, just gotta watch what you're doing and know who you're deal'n with.

Just curious...what do you consider a "fair" price for out of production parts like:

Hondaline Saddlebag Guard Rails

Cobra Radiator Covers

Honda Engine Hanger Covers

Rattlebars Kick Shift

Heck, ANY Rattlebars items....Bar grills, Tube Toppers, Radiator Top Kit

Aeromach V Stacks  (are these still made?)

Etc

No flames...just trying to gain perspective and understanding.   Smiley cooldude

Only you can set those values......like I said there are parts and there are PARTS.....I know if I want Cobra radiator covers (even from a member in here) Im gonna pay.  Thats probably why I dont have them.  Im not saying your rare and non-available part isint worth something, Im just saying for a person to decide which market they wan tto compete in.

Search our board and find out what that part is going for to people that know the parts.  But to take prices off of completed auctions and then think thats fair is obscene sometimes

While I agree in principle, I have sold some rare parts on our classifieds recently that sold for what I asked, which was much more than I paid for them. The fact that they didn't last 24 hours before someone was willing to pay what I asked, justified the price to me. I probably could have received more for them on Ebay, but I thought I would give someone here a chance first.

Other things I have given away for free (shipping only), like the stuff for your friend.

I think it's only fair to guage the price of a part based on what such venues as Ebay provide so as to know the "market value".  Having said that, if you want market value, then just take it to Ebay.  You get what the market will bear whether it's worth it or not.  It's worth it to the buyer and that's all that's really important.   There are quite a few items I'd like to procure but, the market price is well over what I am willing or able to pay.

If I was in a position to part out a Valkyrie, I'd like to say that I'd give first shot to fellow members but, I gotta be honest with ya, it really depends.  As I stated previously, I am expecting a set of fork guards from a fellow member, based on the way he is sending them to me, if I had something to sell and he wanted it, he'd get it at the best price I could go with.  Others who want to make big bucks on every item they sell, well not so much.  All I can really say is, what goes around, comes around.

Also, Id like to clarrify.  I see nothing wrong with putting a part on EBAY and collecting 500% what its worth if someone wants it that bad.  Im not in any way criticizing anyone for making a profit on anything they sell if thats what they want to do and can do.

Undecided Undecided.......oh well.....I was just trying to help a brother out and not let it take up needed space in my storage shed...... Sad

I  agree, parts are parts and used are used, I've been pricing some things I'd like to have but I will not pay new or even 2 3rds of the cost. I just put a set of tour bags on my standard everyone wanted 900 and up just for the bags not counting the paint ( how often do you get bags that are color matched already) and the brackets needed with the hardware news flash ( they aren't made of GOLD) I finially found a set with everthing I needed got them paint and installed for the priced most want just for the bags.....long live barder system.!!!!!!

I was fishing for a while for how much I thought I could get for a Rivco center stand in that other thread.

I am selling it to a VRCC member that local here for $200.  Is THAT fair enough?

I am also selling the same guy the cobra floorboard for a set of stock pegs and whatever he decides to pay me for the difference.  Hopefully that's $100 or so.  If not.. .I'd rather have a friend than an extra $200.

However, BOTH of these items I got off a bike that I bought with the intention of turning a profit on.  I sort of wanted to put the center stand on eBay and see what the ID10Ts would pay  for it... but he REALLY wants it, and since I am taking it off of HIS old bike... I figure I should make him a deal on it.   cooldude

I have seen stuff f/s or trade in our classifieds at prices much higher than on eBay or CL. It does not bother me though. ??? .
I just move on and buy from elsewhere.Cheesy
Yet I have made my own mistakes on eBay by paying three or four times (on an impulse), than what the item is worth. Embarrassed
Recall the "Velocity Stacks... err... Filters snafu last week (?)... Roll Eyes

Notwithstanding the above, the transactions I have made with other members of this brotherhood,
have been nothing less than outstanding... I.e. front and rear Fenders, Heel and Toe Shifter, Cobra Driving Lights, etc.
All with outstanding outcomes; except for me ending up in the Dog House! Embarrassed

BTW, I am still waiting for somebody who hates their Tourer and wants to desperately trade for my VTX1800.  2funny Undecided 2funny

PS: Jabba; the guy who is buying your RIVCO stand is getting a great deal for $200. Good for you, good for him. cooldude

I keep thinking I should by new seats from HDL and sell them on ebay as "New Old Stock". Have you seen what people are paying for used stock seats? Most are worse for the wear too.

Why would you pay more for a used part than the new one?

What ever the price that a part got sold at that's the right price.

I have given away thousands of dollars worth of parts. Some I intended to give away. Some I was trying to help out a member and got the shaft in the process. I lost some very high dollar parts being "a nice guy". And they were ALL members of the club at the time.

I have no complaints, I enjoy these classifieds and am thankfull for them.
I have been helped out greatly by some fine folks here. (recently too)
I have also tried my best to help out others in need when I can. If I think something is high priced or someone is trying to get rich, I just move on.
