I'm not quite ready for a car tire yet, but I am thinking of a new Shinko Tourmaster 230 for the front. I read in a review that Shinko is made by Yokohama. Is that true? If so I would feel more comfortable knowing some history of the company and their products. At Cycle Gear: $121 for the Shinko, $212 for the Avon. $91 is nothing to sneeze at. If any Shinko users have any comments they would be much appreciated here in the next day or so. Thanks in advance. I was happy to make it home on my now worn out Avon. 8,750 miles on that tire; disappointing to me. the two previous front Avon Cobras I got 12,600 and 15,100 miles. Gets worse and worse.

Thanks all for your comments. I'm going with the Shinko from JW, $95 delivered (next week.)
Cycle Gear will put it on for $35 I think.

$30 plus all the fees and taxes. I have started using an independent tire place just down the road from me. $15 cash. It's Hispanic owned and Sunday morning the guys are usually standing around hoping for customers. Do you have similar near you?

I'm running a Shinko S E 890 that i have put over 2000 miles on already. Lotsa twistys and i'm liking what i'm feeling with this tire. Agressive(for me)lean angles as what my Metzler 880 allowed me. Have yet to run it in the rain. Up to this point in time i'm sold. $118.99 to my front door from M C Superstore. They have since gone up. RIDE SAFE.

I had C Gear put the new Metzler on my VTX today $30 total since I kept the old tire. (mistake!) $3 to dispose I think. Not bad, but $15 sounds better. I bet those are the guys that dump tires somewhere like south Atlanta since they are only getting $15. Do you keep your old tire when you use them?

The other store charges $!5 and keeps the old tire.

Duffy I bought a 230 about 2,000 miles ago and still looks new. I was skeptical since I wasn't familiar with it but read great reviews. It tracks good, smooth and stable. I love the tread design and great on wet roads and I've had it in triple digits on hot days and so far so good. Motorcycle superstore had a sale and I got mine for around $70. For ANY reading this, stay away from the 700 series, they had been coming apart. Just curious, why the mileage variation on the 3 Avons? same models? Anyway, Good luck!

I thought long and hard about that Coot. In the end, the cheapo in me decided to give the Shinko's a try. Bit T - I don't know why the mileage dcline on the avons, same tire same bike same rider... two theories: 1. the driver became gradually more aggressive over those 3 to 4 years ; or 2. the Avons are getting less and less durable. I didn't believe 1. when it was suggested to me, but maybe.

I knew I was going to be getting rid of the Suzuki Bandit 1200 before I got hurt on it or worse . I had always used Michelin Pilot Power tires on this bike and they was awesome. When I knew I was going to sale it , it needed tires so I went with the StinkO's and wow it was amazing how much better of a tire the Michelin Pilot Power was. The StinkO's was IMO the worse thing I could have put on that bike it took all my confidence out of pushing it through the twisties and I could nolonger push the limit with speed....The fastest I've ever been was on that bike ....165 and still pulling when I backed out of it....At 80 with the StinkO's it would start to shake....I'm with Coot on this Duffy with the way you ride you don't need some cheap ass tire under you...." MONEY " You can't take it with you and it ain't going to do you no good dead....Second picture is Big Al and I doin' The Dragon side by side no way I'd ride like that with SinkO's mounted.

If you can. Measure the tread depth in the center of the tire.
My Shinko Raven rear tires had more tread than the Shinko Verge front.
