Many years ago (pre radar) a guy I worked with as a motorcycle messenger was doing about 130mph on the M1 in England.

He says he went by a police car waiting in a small lay by. Saw it's blue lights come on, then off, as they realised how fast he was going and immediately gave up. He exited the motorway pretty quickly.
