needed to take the swingarm off.... so I rechecked the u joint, and it is showing a slight amount of end play.... I wouldn't think it would have any end play if the needle bearings were tight and not worn.   Came in to order a new one from HDL, but got in too late.they were closed for the day... will call them in the morning to see if they have one.

Mark,
I agree, shouldn't be no end play. However when I checked out the new unit it had play also! I couldn't feel it as easy because the rubber bearing seals where a lot stiffer.  It now has 20k miles on it and it appears to be fine. Last year at InZane "whats his name" the guy from California that rebuild u-joints showed a bunch of us how most off them fail. He showed us that the bearing needles freeze in the cups and the cup will start to rotate inside the yokes.

I believe if the cups are solid in the yoke and you feel a little play and the bearings are smooth it still can be used as a good back-up unit. When I helped Sixguns replace his the new U-joint had play also!! Honda must want it that way?

Mark you didn't pull the swingarm did you. I know you should know how to get it out without doing that.
