Recall my post about solar storms & GPS's.  I called Garmin TS, they provided an RMA # & I shipped it out for a factory refurb.  They replaced the unit with a new one the same day they received it, and shipped same day.  It will be here tomorrow.  I just register it and my lifetime update subscription will be moved to the new serial #.   That's my kinda C.S.!  It pays to deal with a company that cares about their customers and rep, even if you have to pay a little more for the product!

I thought I was messaging Garmin Customer Service this morning.  The link I was on, had me submit my questions.   They responded by asking me if I'd pay $30 for the answer.  It all seemed ligit at first and I even got the link off of an Amazon Garmin ad.  I hate phishing trips.

The "real" Garmin CS is quite good.  They diagnosed and fixed some software problems with my unit just by plugging into my computer.  It was all done on-line, without returning anything.

Glad you have found the experience to be positive.  It all depends on the rep.

Mine has been quite dismal.  And it has been echoed by plenty on Amazon.  Count yourselves lucky.

I've used Garmins for a dozen years or so - began when they were first available for consumers, back before they stopped degrading the signal intentionally.  I've contacted CS several times, all with good results.  I've had 5 different Garmins now.  They replaced my Street Pilot, free when water got inside it - was supposed to be gasketed to a mil spec.  This is the second time they replaced my Zumo under warranty.  I have called them for TS when I wasn't getting anywhere following their manual or website, always to good results.  And I have provided feedback to them, of bugs I've found in their firmware and mapping products. The bugs went away in subsequent releases. It's always been a professional and satisfying experience for me.

My Zumo 450's screen went dead last winter. Turned it off one night, next morning nada! Called 'em, said send $175 and unit to fix. Bad deal! Bought nuvi 50lm for under $100 instead.
