I need to let out steam....sorry for the rant

Yesterday I went to the dmv to register my truck. Its a diesel. I called first and asked what I needed so I could get it done right the first time. They tell me Title and insurance, I dont need an emissions test since it is a diesel. I ask "Are you sure thats all I need?" They say yes. So I get there and they call my number. The girl tells me she wants to see the title, insurance and emission test. I tell her its a diesel and I dont need an emission test. She calls someone higher up, not the manager, and this other lady tells me I need to take my truck to air quality (23 miles round trip) to get proof its a diesel. I say the title says it is a diesel. Then she tells me she cant do anything until I get the diesel exemption.

So I drive the truck down to the air quality station and they ask why I am there while shaking there heads. They ask which DMV sent me. I tell them and they say, "Those dumb asses, They cant do anything right." They send me back to DMV with a brochure and the name of the AQ manager for DMV to call. They also told me they send DMV memos every month to quit sending people down there for no reason.

I get back to DMV only to lose my place and ask if I can take cuts. The rude little girl with the attitude tells me I need to take another number. I tell her they are wrong for sending me there and give her the pamphlet where it says I dont need an emission test. She reads it and tells me I still need one. Now I call for the manager.

The manager comes out and reads the pamphlet and says I dont need the test. He then says for me to register the truck someone has to go out to the truck and read the VIN. Only male employees are allowed to do that. So I have to wait for the only guy to come back from lunch. The male manager couldnt do it because he was busy.

You would think they would know how to do their job correctly after being there day in and day out. It sucks, you have to do what they say or they wont help you. Basically they have you by the short and curlys.  aaarrrgggghhhh  end of rant

Not to piss you off anymore than you rightfully deserve, but when in doubt, always ask for their supervisor or manager on duty.  This could've saved you both money and time let alone insanity from the idiots that be.  I've never had to do an emissions test to register vehicles.  Is that state specific or is your truck a heavy duty commercial hauler and not just the normal 1/2 or 3/4 ton pickup?

Boy oh boy, this kind of crap is one of my biggest pet peeves..our local (contract) registrar ticks me off so bad I now drive to the county seat to do all my vehicle registrations.

I had purchased a 97 GMC Jimmy that I had spent almost a year trying to buy and a very discounted rate (100 bucks over the dealer trade in allowance), had a signed statement from the PO, the amount written on the title and these idiots said the "state" says this vehicle is worth twice what I paid for it and charged me tax on the amount the "state" said it was worth. I was so pissed off that I fired off a nasty email to the Dept. Of Revenue. I got a reply saying I need to get an estimate of all repairs needed, cost of replacement parts, etc. etc. and submit it to them. SO, I did that, and filled out a state form (declaration of buyer and seller) and sent it in. About 4 months later I got a check in the mail for $285 as a refund for overpaid taxes. Every vehicle I have purchased since has had that declaration filled out and have had not had another problem with being over taxed.

One benefit of 23 years of military life, is learning if there is a rule saying things must be done one way the is also another that says "here is a way around that rule".

In Texas, when you buy a used vehicle from anyone other than a dealer, you pay tax on the SPV (standard presumptive value), not what you paid. Of course, the county tax office calculates what the value is.

From their website: "If you paid less than the standard presumptive value for your vehicle, you may pay sales taxes on an appraisal amount provided it is certified by a licensed insurance adjuster or a licensed motor vehicle dealer".

What the website doesn't tell you is the appraisal fee must not be less than $100.00.
They've got their ducks in a row for sure.

I don't know what county you are in, but in our county they take your word as to what you paid for it. There are various reasons why you can pay less than appraised value for a vehicle or bike. I.e, damaged, engine bad etc.

VA annual personal property tax (in addition to one-time sales tax) on cars is based on KBB or NADA, but on bikes, it is what you paid for it.  So you jump title and sell your new-used bike to your brother for $1200 (in a non personal property state, and pay him the sales tax), and have him sell it back to you for $1200.  All backed up with legitimate bills of sale.  Some might do it for $200, but there is no reason to be greedy.

The idea of having to pay taxes on your vehicles for the rest of your life is repugnant. (registration, plates, insurance, inspections, emissions is bad enough)

Another example of what Robert states:

Our local dog park is tucked into the back of a local town park.  You have to go through the entire park to get there.  Been walking there with the pooch in the evenings to get exercise, about a mile each way.  Last night, on the way into the park, my son, who walked with me, left me and the pooch to play basketball and we continued through to the dog park.  When leaving, as I was walking passed the basketball courts, which are set back from the parking lot where I was walking, a parks dept employee stopped and told me that I wasn't allowed to walk my dog in the park.  I asked how else would I get to the dog park?  He said I had to drive.  Told him I had no car and he got miffed and turned to walk away.  Just then I saw my son at the water fountain and called his name to leave, but he didn't hear me and started walking back towards the courts.  As soon as I made a motion towards the courts, the guy yelled "You're not going to the courts with that dog are you?".  What a dick.  So now, I can't leave the park.  I tried calling my son's name a few more times but it was too far and too noisey.  So I start to walk over anyway and he charges at me to yell that I can't have the dog in the park.  I told him I can't leave until I get my son because we walked there and I didn't want my 12 year old crossing the highway alone and not even knowing that I left.  What a huge thing this ass made of absolutely nothing.  Threatening to call the police, animal control, and yelling in front of a lot of people.  I kept asking why he was doing this and he just kept saying that dogs aren't allowed in the park over and over again.  When I had enough, I told him to call the police and walked right passed him, found my son and called him over and the 3 of us walked towards the parks entrance  The parks dept. idiot tried to cut my path off with his cell phone in his ear and I informed him that he didn't want to get in my way and if he touched me, I'd kill him.  He yelled into his phone, "You heard that, right?  He just threatened me"  and I yelled louder "Yes I Did!".  When we got out onto the road, My son said, 'That was cool, Dad"   Cheesy

When you buy a used vehicle here in Mo. the dealer gives you a bill of sale and the title. Wink At least in my case as i paid cash for my car and my Phatt Ghurl. coolsmiley I paid taxes on each vehicle at a rate of 7%. With proof of insurance a title search that the Mo. D M V does and a title transfer and the cost of the tags and a current inspection form i are done and out of there. But in all fairness i live in a small town, there is mostly 2 ladies behind the desk and the longest i ever waited to get served was like 10 minutes. 2funny And the fact is i worked with one of the gals at another place and it's nice when i walk in and she calls me by my first name. cooldude And the dealer and myself DO NOT want to get caught with non matching sales amounts. crazy2 He loses his licsense i get a big fine and maybe jail time. If i pay $5000.00 all the paperwork HAS to match. Cool Other than that aint no big deal. Cheesy I'm betting people in St. Louis and Kansas City might have a different story. uglystupid2 RIDE SAFE.

A few years ago the State of Ind. Switched BMV computer systems.  That same tear I Upped my CDL from B with Tank, HAZ, and MC  to A with Tank HAZ MC multiples, and passenger.  While doing all of this the gave me back a Plain CDL A  no endorsements.  Questioned them as to where my endorsments were and they said they had NO RECORD of any of it. At ALL.  Got the Mgr to call down to Indy and they said that if it was on my old Liscense to just give it to him and we'll fix it later. (gotta love speaker phone)  I then asked what a Cop would see if he ran my license.......Plain CDL A.   tickedoff

I've been trying to tell Americans that the nonsense happening in England and other EU countries was going to come here.

After reading these posts I rest my case.

Y'all need to read more than your local newspapers, if you even read those, to understand what is happening.

However, if you are happy watching ESPN, reality TV shows and the other crap that's broadcast have at it whilst it sucks your brain out of your arse.

Remember, if you vote, you can vote out most of these pocket hitlers that have attained power.

If you could vote but don't then tough yak squeeze. You deserve everything you get.

SO, if you go to the store and buy something that has been put on SALE (i.e. 40% off) are you charged taxes on the original price???? I'd be filing a lawsuit, no way will I stand for some damn government making me pay tax on an amount more than I actually paid.

Trust me. I feel ya.
We just got through buying a used car. We paid $8500 for the car. Luckely, the SPV for the car was $8440.... So we paid tax on what the car cost. (the greater amount). We paid $531.25 tax for this dang car. I would have been REALLY pissed if we had to pay more because of the SPV.
