Well, on the news last night they are preparing the way to raise the ability to draw Social Security and Medicare to the age of 75-80 yrs old to help the benefits get more solvent.
I think to make it more solvent we need to hire a bunch of investigators and kick the people that are already illegally drawing these benefits off the govt tit.
this is gonna REALLY PISS ME OFF.

The intent of social security was to allow the people that lived longer than they were supposed to some income, and to provide for the widows of men that supported them for their whole lives. We were not SUPPOSED to live long enough to collect it.
Now... with medicine what it is... and much longer life expectancy, it's not a solvent program. Not to mention that they messed it up by raiding the fund, and turned it into a pay as you go system. That wasn't the intent either.
At 43, if they would let me opt out now... I'd gladly let them keep the $350K they have already taken from me... not to mention the $350K that the took from my employers on my behalf, which is NOT reflected in the SS statements they send every year.

Oh, don't forget the illegals that are drawing it and sending it back to Mexico.
Right next door to me, is what I thought was a Cat House, or a Drug outlet. Found out a couple of days ago, it is a 1 family structure with 6 families living in it. All the residents but 1 are illegal, she has raised 2 kids by her lover that is an illegal. I heard a figure she gets each month and it totally blew me away.
I'll shut up on them now before I really get carried away.

I did just a little quick math [ the OLD math] once I started to draw SS and found that figuring in a measly 5% interest that my check should be 80% greater than it is.. I don't ever remember giving our politicians permission to change the requirements to allow INELIGIBLE people to receive these benefits.. We would all certainly be better off saving this money on our own..

I used to bitch and moan when I got my paycheck and looked at what FICA got from my hard work.
I am permanently disabled due to degenerative spinal chord issues and I now receive SS disability. I'd rather be working, but after going to several job fairs, I've been told that no employer would hire a person of my age and with my health issues. I would be considered liability, no matter my experience level. I could work as a contract worker but at least half of my wages would go back to the government.
SS disability is a Catch 22. But I still try to get by and do volanteer work.

Or the folks who reached the limit on their 3 year unemployment benefits and have moved on to social security to make up for it.

Not if you listen to the dems/libs/left. You see, unfortunately there are those among us who can't or refuse to take care of themselves, their families, their futures, etc. Therefore, we need gov't to take care of us all.

But THIS is what SS is for. It's for those who need it, not for those who want it.

I used to bitch and moan when I got my paycheck and looked at what FICA got from my hard work. My high school senior daughter is a casheir at a supermarket. She loses all the same "old age" deductions as well as union dues, and is ineligable for any of the benefits from both. Talk about getting ripped off. She was offered something off of the books and asked if it would bo OK to take the job. I told her ABSOLUTELY. There's no reason a 17 year old, making $120 week before taxes needs to pay into this crap when the illegals and day workers in my area make $100 a day in cash.

Step-daughter's boyfriend finally got properly diagnosed by Dr. Feelgood. He's Bi-polar and getting SS. He wont come over anymore because I said someone should be able to get twice the work out of him. As soon as Shane is tired, Enahs could take over or work another shift. I also told him he should take my wife and I to lunch so I could get a return on my investment. He is the atypical, central casting basement dwelling gamer. We wont subsidise them in any way. The S/D needed a phone card and I told the wife she needs to get a man who can support her.

I don't know your step-daughter's boyfriend, but I find your characterization of bi-polar disorder offensive and ignorant. My 15 year old step-daughter is bi-polar and you have no idea what we go through.

Yep, you bet ! I know families that don't save a dime, have no insurance, but, have to keep up with the Jones' with the homes, cars, country clubs, restaurants, etc. .. I won't bring up their political affiliation.

Stanley, you took the words right out of my mouth. Totally Agree! There will be no s.s. by the time the 40 and under crowd get to that age period so either die young or work until you can no longer work at all and hopefully we have saved enough by then or inherited enough to live.
