took a trip to the local retailer of comestables. and was struck by the thought "everything is sold in plastic these days except pickles, relish and olives.  ??? ketchup, mustard, steak sauce, salsa (ok some salsa is in glass containers) spices etc, etc,......

not pickles and relatives? anyone know for sure? I tihnk it might be concern over staining the container?

another question...... would green olives be good in meatloaf?  Lips Sealed

Not sure on the why pickles or olives aren't (often?) seen in plastic containers. Pickle relish is readily available in plastic containers though, and we buy single large pickles in a plastic pouch too, so not sure...

And yes, green olives would be good in meatloaf, or just about anything else... assuming the nasty pimentos were removed first!

(One of my curses... I LOVE green olives. As in sit down and eat a whole jar of the things for a snack. But I LOATHE pimentos. Only found green pitted olives not stuffed with anything a few times in specialty shops and very expensive.... (Yeah, I know.... First World Problem.))

I believe it is because the canning process requires the contents to be heated in the jar in a boiling water bath and plastic jars would not stand up to the heat.
