If I had my way, every child in this country would be required to learn as much as possible about our "greatest" generation. It is so disheartening to me how little our younger generations know about our recent history. This, to me is one of our greatest failures as a nation. As many of you have said, I am totally indebted to these great patriots, the least I can do is give them the respect they so richly deserve.
Btw, my father was one of those marines in the pacific theatre. He like most others prefered to downplay his role. We only found out after his passing, when going through his personal effects that we found pictures that lead us to believe he saw some pretty terrible things. God bless them all.
