The issue remains as fresh as today’s headlines, as Romney argues that Obama is trying to move the United States toward European-style social democracy, which was precisely the New Party’s goal.

These European democratic socialist governments also tend to make a lot of noise about what they’re going to do about their economies imploding, making demands for bailouts, refusal of “austerity,” etc., but are basically powerless to determine their own destiny in the face of edicts from the European Union—i.e., they have lost their sovereignty."
