Chapter ride today, after it was over a few of us were riding to local harley shop for open house. Rebuilt, slightly modified twin cam and a 1200 Nightster(?) decided they didn't want to be behind me. They passed me and stayed 150-200 feet ahead of me for about a minute. I couldn't figure out why the guy in front of me (new Heritage with a 103) didn't roll on with them...then it hit me. His is still new and he's breaking it in!!! So I downshifted to 4th and hit it hard. Didn't take long till they noticed me and both went WFO. The 88 was the first to give up, he let off and shook his head right when I passed him. The Nightster was a little faster but never had a chance. I slowed down when I was couple hundred feet out front....just to make sure....and then slowed down to the speed limit. They never came up beside me again!! Right before we got to the harley shop. I heard the Sportster guy tellng the 88 "Man that thing's crazy!!". When I told them I still had 7-800 rpm before redline they didn't have much to say except "I don't doubt it".  |

"Well, THEY started it!!" did that ever work for you when you were a kid? never did for me, I was still a young lad and a girl was picking on me. I think I ended up pushing her down, got busted by the teach and of course my Dad had a looong, loong talk with me about girls, after my whooping.

my old boss is a big harley lover. he's a great guy, wonderful personality, smart, funny, just a wonderful person. except for one thing, he always made fun of me riding a "jap" bike.
one year, his "hog" broke down twice on a trip to glacier national park. once going, once on the way back!! he told me how his cycle overheated going across south dakota. he said he was "pushing it really hard running 85 mph the whole way!" i didn't make any comments, he was my boss you know....
next week i'll be making the same trip across SD. not sure how fast i'll be running, one things for certain, i won't be worried about breaking down.

The best HD encounter I had was about 5 years ago I still chuckle about it  Me and my wife where taking it easy, we where low on gas and was looking for a gas station, when this husband and wife team on a pair HD came up from behind - seemed to be anoyed with our pace and they zipped around us and never waved ect - we waved them on around and waved and no response. ??? My wife had a Magna 700 at the time (not a slow bike) she never had a problem keeping up in the twisties So we found a gas station filled up and continued our ride Then we ran into the HD couple they went down a closed road and we met at an oposing cross roads  again we waved and they did not ??? so they turned, happened to be the same direction  Hmmmm  They turned first and went like a bat out of hell up the hill  I looked at Jan with a smile - your ready for this We took off after them and caught up with them in no time  and stayed on thier butts - it was great

On the Britman Memorial ride this year, the only bike that broke down was a Valk. And a Harley rider helped to repair it. So not too sure I'll be pushing too hard on that HD being less reliable stuff anymore. |

on yesterdays ride there was a gold wing broke on the side of the i-state, i stopped and offered help but he had a roll back coming already,,so we rolled on,,,on the Harley,,,

Valkyries were Made in U.S.A. and they are, according to her, "Jap bikes". So...if Valks are Jap bikes....harleys must also be "Jap bikes" because they're made in the same country.....unless harleys aren't Made in U.S.A. Hmmmmm. The point she is missing (ignoring), the harley broke down. |

Valks, Goldwings, Harleys, and at least one Victory were ridden on the Hillbilly Highways ride this weekend. It was easy to see that a great time was had by all. It was cool to see a bunch of people enjoying motorcycles no matter what kind they were riding. |

I got a bunch of compliments on my Valk from Harley riders today as well as me, admiring their rides as well. |

How does a V-rod compare to CBR1000RR? Don't embarass yourself. Well, you started it. Honda riders are not stuck up, though we should hold our head higher than the rest. Honda is unquestionably the biggest selling motorcycle in the world.

My son Justin was riding with a buddy on a 110 cubic inch Screamin’ Eagle (1802cc) twin cam engine.
On a pull from about 55 up the Screamin'Eagle just walked away from him! With medication and a lot of therapy we were able to pull Justin out of his depression.
One caveat I cling to is they were near Flagstaff Arizona, at a pretty hefty altitude, I figure the Harley with fuel injection managed the environment much better compared to the Valkyrie's carbs.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it, maybe just maybe at sea-level the Valk would have done better.

( Wouldn't mind a Screamin' Eagle Switchback for a second bike. ) It was cool to see a bunch of people enjoying motorcycles no matter what kind they were riding Exactly!! That's how it SHOULD be!! |

Just so you know my position on bikes and owners. Had a guy ask what I ride, told him about by Valk. He ask what was the best bike to own. I looked at him and said, "The one that makes you smile!" We had a good time talking differences in bikes.

Who cares as long as you ride!!! I also have a Ultra Classic w/ 55K miles and it has never let me down. I do my own servicing except for tires, no issues for 9 years now, did have to replace a voltage regulator when fairly new...

A few years back I was riding in the Ozarks, great roads and no traffic by the way, I stopped for fuel and as I was sitting out of the way having a coke about 15 Harleys pulled in to fuel up. Two bikes with there girl friends pulled up to me I thought OK jap bashing, instead they admired my bike and told me when they ride out of state they always ride there Valks because through experience they never had a break down, but local riding they ride the HDs because the girls love them. Go figure?
