An 18-year-old motorcyclist was killed after losing control of his bike late Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
The motorcyclist, identified as Nathan Scott Raulz, was riding his motorcycle west on Stidham Road behind a red SUV just before 5 p.m., investigators said. The SUV slowed to make a left turn at the intersection onto Bimbo Lane, when the rider of the motorcycle attempted to pass on the left side.
The driver of the SUV told investigators she saw the rider brake hard and lose control of his motorcycle. He dumped the motorcycle and both he and the bike collided with the back and front tires of the SUV.
Emergency responders arrived on scene several minutes later. Raulz was pronounced dead at ap-proximately 5:07 p.m., Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Trey Spikes said. His body was taken to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy.
“Nathan has been a volunteer with Central Montgomery County Fire-Rescue (formerly River Plantation Fire Department) Station 171, for the past three years,” said CMCFR Fire Chief John Farthing in a release Wednesday night.
“It is with deepest regret we announce the death of one our firefighters. There will not be another Nathan Raulz anytime soon. ”
Raulz was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, and DPS investigators on scene, as of press time, do not believe that excessive speed or alcohol was a factor in the accident.
The posted speed limit on Stidham Road is 40 mph.
Raulz recently graduated high school and was planning on joining the military, investigators said. The case is currently under investigation by the Department of Public Safety.
