:'( Not many things bring tears to my eyes, but this sure did. Our dog, Maddy, just got too old, too tired and we had to let her go. My daughter picked her out when she was 6 weeks old. She helped raise my daughter from 12 yo to 24 yo and taught her responsibility, humility and how to love someone besides yourself. She probably hiked thousands of miles with my wife in the mountains here protecting her from the occasional rattlesnake, coyote or homeless person that would sometimes bed down in the wash in addition to being the faithful companion that was always ready to take off for an adventure hiking. For over 12 years she was always happy to see me and never showed an angry moment in her entire life. I cannot express how much joy I have had just sitting around with her curled up by my feet doing what dogs do best. I have always had animals but the last one always seems the best. She always liked to take a dip in the pool when it was hot. When she was younger and my daughter would have friends over out splashing in the pool, she would always jump in to try and "save" them by grabbing their arm in her mouth and pulling them to the side of the pool. We learned to put her on a leash so she wouldn't freak out the kids. In the end she still liked going in, but was so weak that I would have to lift her out. Her good buddy, Bebe, who grew up with her is now without her lifelong companion. Bebe wouldn't eat last night and knew something was up. when they were young they both knew not to get up on the beds but were just so darn cute together. So yesterday my wife and daughter took her to the vet to say goodby. Proud of my daughter for going to be with her. I just could not bear to be there. RIP Maddy, you were the best.

Sorry for your loss as I can certaily feel your pain. We had to put down a beloved pair of life mates last year that were very special to us. Our Doberman Pepper and our mutt Sassy enjoyed one another for 12-years....it almost killed us. It took us almost a year before we could bring ourselves to consider another dog...but we did and rescued our mutt Jaxon. Now Jaxon has has a life mate named Sophie! Sophie is the boxer pup

Don... I've been there, my friend and it is painful. Indeed, my Dog was a better "person" than most everyone I know, except for my Mother. Heal soon.

Good for you for making the decision to send her off with dignity, it was the right one. I made a dog hang on too long once out of selfishness and I still regret it.

Sorry for your loss. Any dog lover knows what you and your family are going through. We love and treat our puppie as one of the kids. Not looking forward to the day of loss, but we know it will eventually come. It's very ok to hurt, otherwise you wouldn't be a good person. (in my eyes) Time will help. Hang in there. Gregg

Sorry for your loss. They become a large part of our lives. You never realize what they have brought to our lives. We lost our Italian Greyhound yesterday as well. She was fifteen. She had been losing weight for a couple months. She had loss more than half her weight. We took her into the Vet, so he could scope her. He called to say she had a large tumor in her throat that could not be removed.
