First the disclaimer.  I have absolutely nothing to do with Popular Science magazine or Liquipel.

In the June 2012 issue of Popular Science, page 16, there is an article about a company called Liquipel that claims to have a process to waterproof some models of cell phones.  The interesting thing here is that the process is done after the cell phone is built.  In fact, the article states that you can send your cell phone to them to have the waterproof process performed.  The article says "For $59, Liquipel will retro-waterproof any of a dozen cellphone models, including iPhones and Samsung Galaxy handsets."

For us motorcycle folks, waterproofing anything catches our attention, especially electronics.  Think of how nice it would be if they ever get around to waterproofing GPS's after the units are built.  We would no longer have to give several of our appendages to Garmin just to get a waterproof GPS.

This is not a recommendation or endorsement or sales pitch.  I am just pointing out that I found a company that claims to provide a service that might be of value to motorcycle riders.  I have not had this service performed nor have done any research beyond the Popular Science article.  Please research the company and form your own opinion about their claims.

I saw TV show about this product. The demonstration was impressive. I hope it works as  good as the demo.

Don't know if it's waterproof, but this looks pretty neat.

You could buy a lot of plastic bags for $59.

That's just a cover to protect one in case it's dropped.

I've never owned a cell phone, so I don't worry about it.

Love my Verizon G'Zone phone.  Was originally sold on how durable they were back during my hazmat adventures after losing my company phone into a pond on a job site and finding it a week later after we drained the pond.  Still good to go.

I have had all the casio gzone phones. Great phones for those outdoorsmen. I just got the gzone smartphone and first thing i did was throw it in the deep end of a buddies pool. Still works as it should. Everyone thought i was crazy.

There was a TV programme testing this stuff in the UK recently. It worked really well and saved the phone when a proper waterproof cover failed. It was said that you can waterproof any electronic item with it so GPS's should be possible. Not yet available this side of the pond yet so only for US members.

what is it with all the cell phones dropped by daughters into toilets?

I think most of my friends that have daughters have had this happen and they
replaced the phone (usually with the insurance but that is still $)

What is so all important that they (a) have it out of where it should be and
(b) actually drop the darn thing in the.........?

 Undecided

Now us guys if we damage the phone its more likely intentional (yeah I meant to run over the phone honey)

The Otter box is water proof and can be thrown against a wall and the phone will still work
