Topic says it all.
The bike just started doing this recently.
As I change between bikes riding one or the other every few days.
Lately Ive noticed white smoke in both exhausts pipes upon starting up the bike after sitting 2 days or more.
No real odor to speak of.
Condensation maybe??
The antifreeze levels are good.
The clutch is OK.
Plugs also a nice toasty golden brown.
It started in the right side first.
Now does it both sides.
It lasts maybe a minute or 2 then its fine the rest of the day or the next few days if its used.
It only does this sitting in my 100+ degree garage.
Fuel off.
Slight to no choke needed to fire it up.
Nothing found in search here about white smoke in exhast.
Ive read a few posts suggesting its the clutch pack??
No problems here with the clutch that Im aware of.

Don't know how clutch issues would cause white exhaust smoke. All this means is that you should ride the valk more. MY '99 Std does it as well just seems to be condensation.

mine does it after sitting over night, just a puff, if it sits for a week, it is more than a puff, but there is no smell to it, and it is fine.

A clutch pack is causing exhaust smoke ?? I'd really like to know the thought process behind that..
Your problem sounds like a bit of condensation.. Some of these engines will develop slightly loose valve guides,, but,, that doesn't seem like your problem..

I read some post here back a bit that a bad clutch rivet or something to that effect caused a whitish smoke.
Didnt make any sense to me back then.
But this bike is very different then any V-Twin Ive ever rebuilt from a wrecked bike.
At any rate I appreciate that what I was thinking <condensation> was the issue.
As the bike runs like a rapped ape otherwise.

Some of these engines will develop slightly loose valve guides,, but,, that doesn't seem like your problem.
Since you ddin't adjust your valves to correct tolerances when you receently did them, perhaps that's a place to start. |

Im going to have them done properly by the local wrench.
I really had no clue what or how to do them.
But in my own defense.
1500 miles and nothings fallen off or blown up yet.
Getting 32 mpg in local riding to boot.
Still havent taken it on the open roads for more then a 20 miles or so ride.
No place to go down here.............

I had white smoke coming from my pipes... clutch pack problems??? the rivets came loose From the clutch sat within the clutch basket and plugged some of the oil journals causing the oil to back up into the cabs and exit out the pipes in smoke form. had to replace my clutch.... just saying that's what happened to me... now my clutch was giving me problems a week or two before it started smoking. just my opinion. |

I'm not wanting too scare you but at 80000 miles I had white exhaust and water in my oil.I had to replace my head gaskets ,an easy job.I really think that if I had checked my cyl head bolt torque I would have found that they needed to be retorqued .I had to do this twice when I replaced the gaskets.If you get water in the oil then its a time to be concerned if not just ride it

Nope no water in the oil. Head gasket was my 1st thought. Drained it yesterday. When I was letting it cool down from the radiator flush. Let it sit<oil> in a gallon+ clear jug for a few hours. Nothing on top floating. Poured it back in. |

White smoke is water vapor, If the clutch problem did clog a oil return, it would have been blue smoke from oil. Don't think that would be possible without other serious problems happening. You are fine, ride it hard and enjoy your Valkyrie.

Im not too concerned anymore at the moment.
I had a turbo T-Bird back in the 80s.
I know from water in the exhast.
Blew up 2 turbos.

In 2003 I bought a brand new Valk with 4 tenths on the odometer. It puffed a little white smoke the first time I started her. In May of 2007 she was totalled by a crackhead running a stop sign.  She had a little over 38,000 miles then and still puffed a little white smoke every time I hit the start button. My guess is it's normal. |

As Im learning more about the Valk.
Its no different then other motorcycle in the sense that it has its own built in quirks.
I have to learn them.

That T-Bird have the same BMW turbo diesel inline 6 the Lincoln Continental had back then? Buddy of mine had one of those. The stock heads cracked. Ford dealer told him not to bother with the Ford parts as they would just crack also, but go see the BMW dealer and get the head that cost $3K rather than the Ford $1.3K |

Cars of course long gone.
Ended up getting most of Manhattan Fords service dept fired by Ford.
They tried passing off a 79 Merc Capri oil cooled turbo on me.
I eventually ended up with the water cooled turbo and inter cooler for the 86 T-Bird.
The car had the same 4 cylinder engine as the Pinto.
Made in Brazil.
Without a turbo in it.
It was a whopping 88hp....
