I was feeling some vibration in my right foot peg when coasting.  I decided to take the rear end apart and check it out for myself.  I had purchased some bearings and a seal for the rear wheel from a bearing house.  So, I was already thinking that the vibration was the bearings.
I removed the rear wheel and took it to Lunsford Honda to swap out the bearings.

When I removed the rear wheel, the splines looked good.

I then pulled the rear end and drive shaft.  The splines in the pinion cup looked good and wet from the oil being pumped into the cup from the rear end.

AND, the splines looked good.

I ended up replacing the u-joint due to some end to end slop.  None of the cups were turning and the movement was smooth.  But, I replaced it for piece of mind.  BJ and I are riding it to AR in a month and I don't want any problems on the way.

Putting it back together I swapped out the brake shoes while I had it apart.
I torque the rear axle before tightening the 4 housing nuts.

Now to change the rear end oil and I'm done.

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.

Happy Fathers Day right back at ya.
Yes, the left rear felt like rocks almost.  And had some side movement.

Happy Fathers Day Hay, glad you caught that vibration in time. I have to install a rear tire in a couple weeks, and take a good look at the final also. Although I have serviced the splines and U-joint regularlly, I have never pulled the drive shaft like you did, putting that on the list.
