I think i need a new alternator.  99 standard started to run ruff, tach died than the bike died. I jumped it and it ran short time and died again.  Battery reads 11.5 v but does not increase volts when I rev up the motor.  It used to go to 14.7 v.  Whats my best bet for my fix?  I read I can use a  1500 Goldwing alternator but you have to rotate a mount. Does anyone know which way to rotate the Wing alternator mount?

If the battery reads 11.5v with the engine over 1500 rpm, you are not charging.  You could check the 55 amp fuse, but you're probably on the right track with the alternator.

You could try getting your original alternator rebuilt at a local shop.

I have heard that M.A.R.S. is no longer in business, but I have not confirmed that. http://mysite.verizon.net/resp3jbj/

And yes, a new or used alternator for the 1500 Goldwing will work and is simple to "reclock."  Not sure which direction (I could actually be a wisenheimer and state that you could rotate it either direction, with one direction requiring a turn over 180°) but if you still have the original it will be obvious.

Good luck.

You need to rotate the GW alternator one screw hole (120 degrees) but not sure which way.  Compare ti to your old one.

I believe M A R S is still in business as i put on one of his rebuilts bout a month and a half ago or so. Whatever route you go on the alt. include a new battery and use a trickle charger for the initial charge on the new battery. cooldude As in been there done that. uglystupid2 RIDE SAFE.

Can I eliminate the battery to make sure I need an alternator?  If the bike will run without the battery it should put out 13 or so volts when I rev the motor.

Try taking a voltage reading at the alternator before doing anything else, if there are any issues with fuses or wiring you should see voltage.
What is that battery voltage when the engine is not running?
Does it change at all after starting the engine?

Charge the battery.  If the bike runs but the tach is still dead the alternator is shot.
