If the battery reads 11.5v with the engine over 1500 rpm, you are not charging. You could check the 55 amp fuse, but you're probably on the right track with the alternator.
You could try getting your original alternator rebuilt at a local shop.
I have heard that M.A.R.S. is no longer in business, but I have not confirmed that.

Not sure which direction (I could actually be a wisenheimer and state that you could rotate it either direction, with one direction requiring a turn over 180°) but if you still have the original it will be obvious.
