Hi,

GWWRA looks like $45 for membership plus the upgrade to rescue plus for another $25. 100 miles covered for a tow.

AAA looks like $115 for upgraded membership to include motorcycles..also 100 miles.

Anybody have experience with either?

is there a better plan out there beyond these two?

Thank you in advance!

I've had AAA RV Plus for many years but never needed it for any of my motorcycles.

I just bought rescue plus for me and Kit. Since she was a spouse they only charged me $45 total for the 2 memberships. I buy it every year. Its good for any vehicle you are driving. For the price of AAA for the same coverage, Id get the less $$.

GWWRA looks like a good deal....
I have never needed roadside assistance but earlier this  week I had a valve stem failure..left me stranded...so I am looking for a good plan.

It sounds like GWRRA rescue plus is as good as AAA and cheaper plus all the benefits of being a GWRRA member.  I just dont have experience with either plan regarding motorcycle assistance plans

Sometimes your vehicle insurance offers roadside asst. Mine does but not for MC's. You can check with yours.

I have AAA Plus RV.... because it actually covers the bike and the trailer I may be pulling behind it, OR it covers the truck and the trailer I pull behind it (which may have a bike in it or a load of mulch).  I'm covered and so is my SO.     But an interesting question to ask is.... do they have different services and different contractors pulling (towing) for them, or do they all use and contract the same folks.....????

A few years ago, I had Progressive and HRCA tow plans and had a flat on a Friday night out in the country.  Neither one could get me a tow that night, and I found out they were trying to use the same folks/contractors.  Sure, they wanted to come the next day to get it... but by then I was home, got my own truck and trailer and did a temp plug on the tire anyhow.

I know AAA has some of it's own AAA marked trucks..... and have called them to unlock a car.   Been happy (so far) with AAA.

Here's something to consider, depending on where you live:

GWRRA may not be allowed to tow on a road that you're broken down on.

I (for my car) had the BMWCCA roadside assistance, and popped a heater hose en route to Buffalo, NY just after I entered the NY Turnpike from PA.  BMWCCA wasn't allowed to send a truck there - AAA has the exclusive roadside assistance contract for the NY Turnpike.

It was a frustrating fiasco, and luckily my parents have AAA Plus platinum bronze gold whatever for their motorhome (Class A Bounder), and the driver that I had called to get me off the pike was cool enough to write it up under their AAA and save me some $$$ - and took me all the way to Buffalo.

I've used Rescue Plus 3 times in the last 10 years on bikes. First time was in Mexico , Maine on my GL1000 on a Sunday evening. Rear flat and and no cell phone service.. we flagged down a driver with a flatbed and he got us to the nearest motorcycle dealer( which was a Honda dealer.)
Submitted the bill to Rescue plus and got reimbursed.

Second time was on the NY State Thruway with a rear flat on the Valk Tourer. Called Rescue plus and help came within 45 minutes. Got towed to a dealer and was on the road with a new tire 2 hours later. I believe I had to submit a receipt that time too for reimbursement.

Third time was out in the state of Washington on the Valk same tourer when I had sudden loss of air on the rear tire (jagged hole in tire) at 65 MPH . Rescue Plus had me at the Honda dealer within the hour. Honda dealer took 6 hours to fit a new tire. Just showed membership card on that one.

If you join AMA and have automatic credit card billing, your $38 membership includes roadside assistance FOR ANY VEHICLE YOU OWN.  I have never had to use it, but I heard that they have a higher towing dietance than AAA.

I've had Markel insuance on the bike since day-one with the add on roadside assistance for 1 or 2 bucks per month.  Used it once in 2004 in the boonies between Tallahassee and Lake Seminole.  Good response and they direct billed the ins company.  The issue was a flat tire, but my compresso did not work.  Lesson learned!  Now, with every oil change, I plug in the compressor to hear it run AND inventory my stop-n-go plug kit.

AMA will tow it 35 miles under their plan.  Decent for the price of the membership.

Since I have GWRRA and AMA memberships, plus Allstate Motorclub, I fugure that I'm good to go for quite a while. Worse comes to worse, tow for the requiste milage, put the bike down, call the next one and leapfrog my way to a repair site.

Rescue Plus has gotten used quite a bit, but I've never needed it. I've had my wife's Fatboy hauled twice for various reasons, my brother-in-law's Heritage once and a total stranger's Goldwing failed stator crapped out on him and his bike quit in front of the motel we were staying in. Worked like a charm each time fairly quickly to boot.

Since I rode Goldwings for 20+ years, I'm still a mamber, though I re-consider that decision very few years. AMA is something every rider should belong to and since my wife is on her own enough, Allstate is a good backup. Options are always good to have in reserve too.

Thanks for everyones replies.

I will look into that issue regarding if GWRRA can tow in my area due to exclusive rights issue.

I thought maybe GWRRA would be more popular but it doesnt seem like it from replies
