Fast Idle Speed

I have a pair of handlebar risers installed on my Interstate. I can't remember what the extra pullback or height they add beyond the stock risers, but I think they may contribute to my problem of fast idle speed.
When I come to a stop the bike wants to idle at around 2000 RPM. This occurs after the engine reaches operating temperature. Blipping the throttle doesn't seem to help. I've adjusted the Idle screw to the recommended 800 RPM. This setting works okay when I idle the bike with the engine cold. I don't think I've got a choke problem, because the cable and choke lever operate smoothly.
Can the extra stretch induced by the risers be affecting my thottle cable positions? Throttle seems to operate freely and it returns to the stop position.
Thanks in advance,
Steve

If you didn't re-route the new cables you may need to or purchase longer cables.. The cables should be free and not be tight or bind in any way when the bars are turned full lock in either direction..
Setting the idle speed is done with the plastic knob between cylinders 1 and 3 [brake pedal side].. The idle speed should be set when the engine is at operating temp. which should allow for a cold idle speed somewhat slower [400-500 rpm range]..

Ah ha! I adjusted the idle speed after releasing the choke but while the engine was still cool. I will re-adjust tonite.
I installed standard length stainless control cables and did not reroute the cables. On the Interstate they fit through the square cutout in the right fairing and route underneath the right front neck cover. Couldn't find a shorter path.

with the motor at idle, turn lock to lock. is there a change in rpm?
if yes you have a cable problem.
