Nothing new about that.  My old (old as in upper 70's) neighbor 7 years ago had one he could program.  He hooked it up to his computer to program phases into it.  The LED screen was the size of a MC license plate.

I have had something similar to that on my Valk for about 7yrs.  It would say do not tail gate when I put on the brakes.  I would say it is about 97% effective, people would stay back.
