Taking us 20 from WY to 385 in NE and then south to Alliance. Was taking 2 to Hyannis and then 61 south to Ogalalla NE. Is 61 a good road? Want to see the scenes on 2 but if 61 is a crappy road I will just stick to 385 to 26 to Ogalalla. Also how do I find Carhenge in Alliance? Is it easily marked on 385? I want to see some sights and alot of old west stuff.
Is there any hotels in Ogalalla to avoid?

The road from alliance to ogalala is fast and smooth, Stayed at the super 8 at ogalala a couple years ago, it's fine.  You do realize Nebraska is a helmet state don't you?  I saw the road to Carhenge, didn't stop though. your gonna see a lot of coal trains, and the high plains NW of ogalala are cool, I felt like Clint Eastwood up there, you can see forever. Take US 36 through Kansas if you get that far south. I-80 will get you east fast from Ogalala.   Hoser

Carhenge is on 87 just north of Alliance.  It seems that I remember a sign on 2 (385) but possibly not.  If you're in Alliance headed west and north, just take 87 north out of town.  Once past Carhenge, one of the local roads west will take you a couple of miles to 385.

I found it worth the stop.

It's a U.S. highway running east and west across Missouri and Kansas that basically parallels I-70 but many miles to the north.  It passes through the towns an hamlets of those two states without any significant impediments to it's lack of latitudinal variety.  From your direction it is essentially an extension of I-72.  It is a route preferable to I-70, but you will likely find more interesting road to the north.

Smooth road, , small towns, light traffic, used to carry a lot of traffic until I70 was built.Towns  include the one I was born and raised in.  That would be Marysville, in Marshall County. Stop at Joe's, Bar, local biker hang out.  Tell him I sent you, and say hello to my brother, goes by Farmer, chances are he will be sitting at the bar.  He's always good for a beer.  Grin   Could run into Grease also, an old classmate.  Iv'e road 36 From Bird City Ks. to Hannibal Mo, its all good.  I ain't been east of there into IL.  Hoser   Evil

Joe does a lot of business during the Sturgis migration.  US 36 seems to be a main route. Hoser
