Oh geeze...

I made a lot of pipe bombs when I was a kid... Never blew anything up but dirt and the swimmin' hole in the creek.

I used to set gasoline fires and ride my bike thru it.

We had many BB gun wars.  Now... we DID wear safety glasses.  But we used to do them in the graveyards at night.  Wow... fun.

I can't believe I survived my 185cc Honda 3-wheeler that I got when I was 13.  We used to knock each other off it.  And pull a sled behind it, and try to toss the rider.  The sled was usually a piece of plywood with 2x4 runners.

That's cool, Jess...I think the reason Fizzies faded out was because cyclamates and then saccharin got banned and that's what they were made with, or so I heard. Several yrs ago, some college kids re-created em with nutrasweet as a sweetener but they've never caught on big time..I guess sometimes it's hard to re-live the past. Sad

How about Fizzies, wax lips and Neeco wafers--but only the chocolate ones, right? And seeing what we could blow up with cherry bombs and M80s. Yes, there were a lot of crazy things we did back then and survived.

In conclusion Oz, we don't conform to the mainstream crowd. Maybe that's why we ride Valkyries!?

But even though we survived,.....pardon the grammar, "We ain't RIGHT!"
Guess what i got?? I have the last 10 root beer fizzies known to mankind,,,there are 60's candy stores and no one has root beer fizzies,,,i might be willing to sell them, or trade them for a Valk!!

yep has something to do with the saccharin (sp) and when the switch came the nutra sweet just didnt taste right,,you can still get some of the other flavors but the root beer are all mine now,, i even drank one about 10 years ago ahh the memories,, these was great post!!!

When I was young, we lived in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma. It was miles to the nearest town, on an old dirt road, across the road from a game reserve, and at least a quarter mile to the nearest neighbor. My dog was my best friend and there was jack to do. I used to run around with my BB gun and shoot stuff. I would ride my bike everywhere and never had to worry about traffic wiping me out.

One of my favorite things to do was play war with my GI Joes and model cars. However, when you get a little older the playing became more creative. My Mom was a diabetic and she used those disposable syringes. Every once in awhile, I would snatch one from the trashcan. I would take off the needle and throw it away. I would make a long fuse and stuff it in the needle end. Then I would take a bunch of firecrackers and unwind them to get to the powder inside. I would dump it on a piece of paper, bend it a little so the powder would slide off in a little stream, and put it in the syringe. Every once in awhile I would use the plunger and tap the powder down tight. I would do this until I had the syringe full of powder. I would break off the little nipple that held the rubber on the plunger and give it one last push. I would take my little bomb out to the spot where I had my GI Joes and Models and set it on fire. Booooom and I would blow those things all over the place. It would even blow a little hole in the ground. Well, I still have all my fingers and I had a great time.
You couldn't get away with that now, they would think you were some kind of terrorist.

This was just one of the crazy things I did as a kid. Sometimes I wonder how I lived to be this damn old.

I'm positive I remember riding behind the fogger truck in Oswego IL in the mid 70's. I also remember riding bikes through the freshly laid oil on the outskirt roads. Messy, but fun. We used to light gas fires ALL the time in the garage, never burned the house down or anything. I also used to have BB gun wars. We used a little eye protection. I remember a buddy getting hit right in the eyebrow...there was a big lump and he squeezed it like a zit and the bloody BB popped out.

I still have my Schwinn Stingray with the 3 speed shifter up by the grip. Metallic red with the bananna seat and the big flat contoured rear tire. I do NOT however have my old apple crate with the nut racker shifter. Bummer. Sad

Speaking of oiling the roads to keep the dust down...i guess sometimes it DOES affect the people. I remember reading with great interest about Times Beach MO, the little town by St. Louis that the govt bought and closed due to dioxin. Think thats what it was. I find crap like that pretty interesting.

I was born in 1947 and remember the ride in the back window of the car.
I still have the scares on my forehead from standing on the front seat
and hitting the metal dash when Dad hit the brakes.
Maybe that,s why I see things the way I do.

  Grin Evil

M-80s in pipe stuck in ground with golf ball on top out in pasture.  You could not see how high the ball went up and didn't know where it would land.

i guess they made them illegal in the mid 60's ?  never had any digits blown off.
