Thinking about a solo trip to Montreal Canda and wondering what to expect.  I figure mid August and staying about 4-5 nights.  Can anyone give me some input and what is there and what to expect?  Thanks

Being only a couple of hours from there, I go a few times each year.  English is widely spoken.  Just let them know that you are an American and the dumbass separatists, if you encounter any these days, will be nice to you and excuse you for not speaking French.  All the signs are in French.  There are a lot of places to see and lots to do there.  Do a search of the historical sites to see, if your into that.  There are a number of large flea markets around as well, just do a google search.  There is underground shopping accessed through the subway system.  Some people never have to go outside if they don't want to.
The temp around that time will be not too bad.  It should be about 75-80F during the day but will drop to about 50-60F at night.  The roadways are complicated so I would suggest you bring a GPS because you can get lost really easy.  I don't know who are the engineers that decided to make the roads like that but they should have been shot, I call them the spaghetti factory.  You are not allowed to make a right hand turn on a red light in Montreal, anywhere else in Quebec is fine to do so.  If you have time I would suggest you take a ride to Quebec City, well worth the drive.

Bonnie and I went to Montreal several years running first week of July for the jazzfest

It was blues, jazz, modern and rock actually

One year it was high 90's so we rode up to St-Sauveur.

BIG Waterpark, lots of fun maybe an hour north of the city, add time getting thru the city to that as the prior poster says its kinda not intuitive

Watch the speed limits 90kph is not 90mph   police

Quexpress is in Montreal but we never did manage to hook up, did see Pierre tho

Found the people friendly but most of them smoke cigarettes nonstop

someday we will return and do a big loop to the maritime provinces and down thru Maine
