For those of you who thought I was charging too much for my Rattlebars shifter when I had it in Classifieds for $225 shipped, this one sold on eBay for $325 + $11 shipping.  $336 total and it is in worse shape than mine was in.

I watched that item, he originally had it listed for $199 and a buy it now of $255
Nobody bid, so he relisted it without a buy it now, and it sold for $325.

Marty;
I was the lucky buyer of your referenced shifter...  Smiley
I take the opportunity to thank you again for your kindness and excellent business acumen.   coolsmiley

I am yet to install it, but it seats next to my computer where I can touch it. Roll Eyes
It is indeed beautiful and your price was SIGNIFICANTLY lower than the one on eBay.  Shocked

Thank you again!  cooldude

Actually Paxton, you bought the Kury Shifter off my I/S.  I was referring to the Rattlebars Shifter off my Tourer.  There was a Kury Shifter on eBay for sale at the same time as that Rattlebars that I referenced.  It went for $345 shipped so you basically saved $100.  The seller completely disassembled that one so you got saved the aggravation of assembling and adjusting it.  If yours needs adjustment it should be only minor.

Marty, I told you anyone that knows what these shifters go for would be happy to get yours at your set price. If not...........let them keep looking for awhile and they will get frustrated at not having one and come to realiize the price they go for and the deal the missed.  cooldude

If I remember correctly, when I bought my Rattlebars Kickshift I paid something like $95-$99 for it NEW. In my opinion, if someone is asking more than that, they are simply raping(financially) fellow members. Oh yeah, my Kickshift can be had for $6500 but the Valk comes with it.

Fair Market Value is part of our capitalist system.  The key word is fair.  What it was NEW is irrelevant if you can't get them new, and only a few used are even available.  If it was 100 new (and I think it was considerably more), the only ones available are 300, and you can get one for 200, you don't think that is fair?

Additionally, some people are without employment and/or on hard times and just trying to get by.

Rape is nonconsentual, no deal on the classifieds is made at knife point.

Good points Jess, I guess it's just me but I would have trouble tripling the price I paid for something and had used for 12 - 13 years.

IE, I have one of the fender racks that so many are clamoring to find. Bought it for $39 several years ago. That's about what I would ask if I were going to sell it. Same deal with my "solo bar". Mine is from the company in Texas that originally made them. Paid $90 for it back then and that's what the price would be IF I were to sell.

No harm done if both parties are happy with the transaction. I just operate a bit differently.  Smiley

Here's my take on the situation:

If you think someone is asking an outrageous amount for something, keep your piehole shut!

If he doesn't sell it, then no harm, no foul...

If he does, then whoever bought it didn't think it was an outrageous amount to pay for it...

Opinions are like *ssholes, etc. and so on....

Dave

P.S.  And I know someone is going to tell me that's my opinion and to keep my piehole shut.... Grin

My last point is this.

If the going rate for the unobtainable is 300, and a VRCC member is an active evilbay/paypal expert who could easily put it up for best price there, but decides to list on VRCC classified for 200 first, isn't that a decent thing to do?  And what if the seller is an unemployed student, struggling to start a new career mid-life?

When I was making six figures, I gave most of my unneeded parts away (like new IS shocks), only asking for shipping.  In retirement, I took an 80%+ pay cut.  I'm keeping the rest of my spares now.

Capitalism is beautiful every time its tried.
If you want to sell what you bought for thats fine. Sleep well and be pure.
If you sell what the market will bear and make a profit, sleep well and be pure.
I'd personally, throw the heel toe as far as I could cause I dont diggem.
