The group agreed at the July meeting to try China Pavilion - 2950 N Beltline Rd. in Irving, one of Dan's suggestions.

Per Dan: "They have an upstairs room with large round table that will seat large number of people.

Menu:  http://www.allmenus.com/tx/southwest/39296-china-pavilion/menu/"

Dan has volunteered to go and eat there in the next few days and if he doesn't get food poisoning or worse, we'll be there on August 9th.  Please mark your calendar appropriately.

Thanks!

RainMaker

I went by Chinese Pavilion today just to check out room since it was a few years ago the one time I ate here (so I thought).
A few weeks ago when I thought about that experience, I could not remember name of restaurant so called around asking different restaurants if they were the one with the upper dining room and whoever I talked to at Chinese Pavilion said yes, they had the round table, in upper dining room.
There was either a language barrier or I was lied to? This place only has one floor period so, I will do some more calling tomorrow but it could be the place I remember is out of business.
Another Chinese place I stopped at close by did not know of a restaurant of my description.

The other place I suggested was Hard Eight in Coppell. Good Barbeque. Some of you have also been there.
Don't think they have a private room but do have the large screened in porch. Never eaten out there so don't know if the porch has refrigerated air.

The Hard Eight does not have cool air outside and it's not very private.  Not the optimum area.

Any other suggestions?

There are two places I frequent with another group as large and larger than our VRCC group.

Angela's Cafe, Lovers Lane and Inwood (Dallas). They have a very large menu; home style.
They have two dining rooms. We regularly come in unannounced for dinner with 12-20 people.
We usually take up the front dining room but also have used the back one.
Excellent service and low prices.

Black Eyed Pea has a new location in Preston Center. They have a small private dining room we usually reserve.

Everyone knows what good food they have.

It looks like Chinese Pavilion is out.

Dan's made a couple of suggestions.  Would anybody else like to throw out some options?

We can try to get a spot at the Love & War in Texas - Grapevine - like we tried to do last month...

Or, if Chinese is still on the p(a)late, there is huge place in the "Chinatown" area at Beltline & Greenville.  I don't remember the name, but it's in the south end, faces north, and is a stone's throw from Wanderer's house.  Maybe he can do a recon mission.

Or, considering the oppressive heat, we can agree on a Baskin & Robbins location, eat a banana split, and call it dinner.

Randy White's BBQ in Frisco also seemed to have a decent space if I recall correctly.. granted it wasn't a separate room.

Market Street in McKinney (and probably most locations) have good food, a semi-private upstairs eating area and a private room upstairs as well.  You order your food, everything from sushi to burgers to pasta and salads including a wide variety of full dinners .  Prices are very reasonable (no tips).  Can check into the private room if there's a desire.

Blessings

Apparently you did not get the memo - if you are president, you get to assign someone else to pick the spot  Evil

You and Liz had the other suggestions for the July meeting after Dan so thought you would like to have the honor, the distinct and singular honor of picking the spot this month.  My previous administration would select a spot and stay there for a year and as that is not in vogue, need suggestions and help.

So, will you pick a spot and reserve a room for us at one of the places Liz mentioned?

Thanks!

We can add your future ride to Vaughn's Catfish to the list.

And sleep is SO over-rated.  You sure you don't want to come?

It was good to meet you as well.  However, it seems we need a better handle than "melon".

Considering your "fleet" of aircraft carriers and the Navy service, how about "Admiral" as your handle?

Also works in the Federation rankings.

My wife says - based on a George Carlin airline captain story - that my handle should be "Air Marshall", but, I will humbly accept "Admiral" as the handle if you folks can stand it.  I was a captain in the old days, so I guess I could take an honorary rank promotion; anyone who rides a Valkyrie should be at minimum, an admiral, anyway.

Thanks, all - will be checking in tonight - gotta get back to slaving away at keeping the electricity turned on in Texas for the weekend.

Have a great day!
