I don't want to buy an "I" anything. Any thoughts? Need something that is visible in the daylight. I don't know anything about them And it would be nice if my EFI software would run on it.

My wife bought a nook color for 199 and can download all kinds of free books and cheap books from barnes and noble online. Internet works great and if using for internet also, would recommend getting the color one like we got. But, if reading books mainly, then go cheaper route with smaller screen just black and white.
Other one on market that heard good is kindle fire for 199 but don't think I'd ever use the keypad since I don't text.
Stay away from the cheaper ones under 125 bucks since don't think the quality and clearity is very good.

I bought a Toshiba tablet. It has 32 Gig and a card slot to add another 32 gig. It's the only tablet with full size USB, HDMI and a mini USB plug. I find this handy for adding music or other files.

Just curius, why not an iPad? Been loving mine (mated to a Zagg folio) for a while now. My laptop has pretty much become a desktop paperweight.

If you aren't in a rush the Windows tablet for Microsoft looks good but not available until ~October. The Google Nexus gets good reviews and started shipping this weekend. The iPad is an excellent bit of kit too don't be put of by all the anti feelings about it, it just works.

I have an Ipad that was gifted to me.... and I'm not speaking for the OP, but it isn't all that or even half that. Browsing and viewing email can be a real PITA especially when there is no FLASH player. It won't handle loading OFFICE on it and most everything is proprietary to Apple. Sure... there might be "an App for that"..... but you gotta pay ala cart pricing for pretty much everything I think. I could probably do more on a Kindle that would suit me than an Ipad.

1. The Microsoft Surface is going to be dismal failure. Those who buy it will be screwed.
2. Nobody can touch Apple quality but the Toshiba Thrive runs circles around it when it comes to features.
3. Cheap knockoff aren't worth the money, stay away from them.
4. I agree with the comments about the Nook Color. I picked up a refurb for $115 dollars and was impressed. It will do anything I'll need it to do while traveling so I plan to pack it rather than my laptop. If you have business needs, however, the Nook won't work.
5. Bought a Samsung Galaxy once but had to return it due to a screen defect.

Yes, I know nothing about this. I don't have a smart phone. Never did. I have a free phone, comes with the job. They pay for the phone and the service but will not pay for a data plan. So I've never sprung for one just to have. So I'm going to need some educating on this.
Android is the OS... So I wouldn't be able to run any windows programs. The only one I'd really miss is the software for my EFI. So I'd still have to pack a laptop when traveling to access that, if I wanted to.
If I buy a 7" am I going to wish I bought a 10"? If I buy a 10" am I going to regret the size?

Android is the OS, and you are correct...no windows software. Keep in mind Android comes in many flavors, the newer versions much better than the earlier. I wouldn't buy anything(Tablet) less than version 4.0 of Android. 4.1 just came out. Size is a personal preference. I have both(I-Pad and Kindle Fire). The smaller 7" is much easier to handle in your hands, and is almost the perfect size. However, the nice big 10" screen sure is nice. For touch screens, the smaller the size the smaller the touch targets are for navigation. I haven't had any problems with that though. You might go by the local best buy or similar and try a few out..... -Scott

Not an expert or fan of tablets. Although I bought my ole lady a Kindle Fire for Christmas and it seems to do what she's wants, and has a great price point.

People all around me have all kinds of pads... the only kind of pad I can relate to is a thinkpad (ibm/lenovo laptop)...
I have a work-related MacBook Pro, and I've seen some of those super think MacBook Airs... they're really nice.
My current person thinkpad is a big slow old clunker. In a few months lenovo will come out with a thinkpad "ultrabook", it will be thin, light and sturdy (like a MacBook Air) and I plan to get one - it will have a 14 inch screen...
I just can't relate to a computer-like thing that doesn't have a screen big enough to see or a usable keyboard....

I forgot to mention: The Toshiba Thrive is the only tablet that has a replaceable battery if it can no longer hold a charge.

I bought a refurbished Xoom. Works great, but I got my feet wet with the Nook Color (not to be confused with the Nook Tablet.) The Nook Color will boot from the sd card if it has a bootable partition so I am running Cyanogenmod android on it, bypassing all the Barnes & Noble stuff. Have a look at http://www.xda-developers.com/ and their forum for the Nook at http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?s=8aec9f905ba7b3ee1531c43f773dd516&f=862.

IF you don't mind tinkering, see if you can find a deal on an HP Touchpad. They are discontinued, and ran a at the time proprietary OS called WebOS. HOWEVER there is a very good Android port to it (From Cyanogenmod) that's currently running Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). Being an HP employee (Until the next round of layoffs at least) I got a stack of 'em when they were originally fire sale clearanced and gave 'em out with Android on 'em as Christmas presents. Like I said though, ONLY consider this route if #1 you're able to find one at a decent price (Under $200) AND you don't mind doing some tinkering to get it up and running. If you want out of the box greatness, I'd be looking at a Samsung Galaxy tablet personally. And I find it hilarious that MadTV came up with this years BEFORE Apple did! Bought the wife the Toshiba Thrive. Solid unit for sure. I would like to upgrade the software as soon as it comes out. I'm not a windows fan, since I went Linux, I have never looked back. I like stuff that works.
